Hello
« on: 15 September 2005, 19:34:54 »

Just wanted to say hello.

I bought Nightwish's Once this summer and after enjoying it I decided to research other European metal bands. I took a risk and ordered Ashes after seeing some interesting reviews.

That fact that you are reading this says it all. I have never posted on any band's forum before.

Ashes is a stunningly fantastic album. It has immediately shot into my top 5 of all time.

Although I am nowhere near finished listening to it, I have just picked up World of Glass and Sirenia's At Sixes and Seven.

I feel embarrassed that there may be a whole scene of really great continental metal/goth (insert your own label) out there that I have to catch up on. In Britain so much of this has passed us by.

Nightwish, Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil are showing some signs of perhaps making an impact but, it is still early days. Although I like all of these bands, none of them come close to Ashes.

Can you help this poor unenlightened soul and recommend other bands and albums I might try?

My all time number one band are Fields of the Nephilim but, I have diverse tastes.

Thank you Tristania for increasing the joy and happiness in my life.

Stewart
Scotland

PS from another thread, I have never heard of endogenesis and I have spoken English for 34 years.

Welcome!... Nice you joined us here, hope you like it.. :)

Yeah, Ashes is really amazing... I can't get tired of it... and I listen to it nearly every day... sometimes more than just once.

Hmm... If I'd you I'd probably try the Albums:
The Gathering - Mandylion
After Forever - Decipher
Draconian - Arcane Rain Fell, and Where lovers mourn (the song "The Cry of Silence" alone is worth to buy the whole album.. *g*

There is also Opeth, but thats a totally different style, they r second to tristania in my opinion, thier music needs time to get into, but once u get there, you will never wanna leave LITERARLY!

+ Empahszie on Widows Weeds and Beyond the Veil for tristania
adn i agree with Deadlocked on Draconian

and I would really suggest Therion - Lumeria and Sirus B

Tristania rules!!!  It is not my favourite band (hail to Nightwish) but they are one of them! Ashes is a very good album. Maybe the best Tristania-album! I don't know which album is the best... World of Glass... Ashes... Maybe Ashes! What about you?... tell me to know! Hail to all Tristania fans!!  B)

Theli and Vovin are great, Secret of the Runes also, although at first you might think, wth is that?

I'd recommend Anathema - A Natural Disaster also (good Radiohead influences and very moody rock / metal).

The Gathering - Mandylion is great, Souvenirs, and How to Measure a Planet?

Dead Can Dance too, but that's nowhere metal ;)
