Yeah, I think I agree with you guys in some parts.
It's nice for the news fans to download the album and, tehn if they like it, buy it.
But I just think some unfair to rip the cd before the release date...
I mean, Why don't wait the album reach the store to rip it?!
I don't know if there is diferences between the promo and the official version... who knows?

But imho the real fans should buy the cd even after downloaded the pirate one.

Actually, I live in Canada, and I just ordered Widows Weeds, World of Glass and yes, Ashes. It would be confounding (but great) if I recieve Ashes before its European release, especially since I don't live in Europe.

As for pirating, all I have left to say is that I hope hackers at least buy their CDs as common courtesy.

of course FANS will buy the album... as for piracy, as long as record companies and bands keep on postponing releases months after they are recorded, then people will download

why is it that the band finished the recording in september and the album is only out in january ???

I think the record companies have something with this period between the records' finish and the release... I don't know.
Some independent bands just finish their records and release them, without long time waiting...

Not necessarily true.  There are those under the impression that Tristania will make next to no money on the sale of their albums while making larger sums of money live therefore being more supportive of the band and less of the label.  I've argued against that although I am beginning to see where they come from.  As far as I'm concerned, if you are going to send your music to dozens of different radio stations as promotional material, you need to live with the fact that its gonna get leaked.

Yeah... unfortunately there's nothing a band can do about it, not in Tristania's case by the way.

Yeah you're right but still it's a bit sucky bcause when everybody keep downloading it and not buying it.. Tristania will not get a damn thing of it..
But hell, Ashes is nice:) Maybe this album will bring them the publicity they deserve.. Even my sister like the songs and that says pretty much because she dispise every other kind of (gothic) metal.. So after all Tristania did a good job with ashes and you can't stop those b*tches who are putting Ashes on the internet
but you can buy Ashes yourself so that you don't have to feel guilty or what so ever.. I think that's a oppertunity?

I'm not against free internet downloads. It's an opportunity to test the music. If it's good I'll buy it because it's in better quality on a CD, I get some artwork and I support the band who did it. But if I find the music bad then I would have wasted my money on it. In that case I delete the music. There's a flipside. Not everybody is that honest and not everybody can afford buying all the music they want to listen. So there are many people who just download without buying which harms the band.

The same applies for me, as example: I got Strapping Young Lad's album "Alien" about 3 months ago in mp3's, guess what I bought last saturday. (great album btw!)

Must have be a reason why small labels sometimes even support file-sharing... :)
