Choirs on World of Glass
« on: 05 February 2011, 09:44:47 »

Good day to the esteemed band members!
Guess this question goes to Anders as nobody besides him and Einar were around at that time and Einar doesn't, well, seem to frequent this place.

Upon my first listen to World of Glass (the album) I was surprised to find many (if not most) choir parts to be actually random latin lines from Carmina Burana stitched together (only the lyrics; the dynamics are way different). I wonder why you guys made the decision to do this. Off the top of my head I thought that maybe since this was your first album after Morten has left - and he seems to take latin choirs very seriously to this day - you didn't feel like dropping them altogether (you did it later with Ashes - and that, IMO, was a right decision), but you felt the need to make it all less serious.

The example of Wormwood is especially hilarious when one compares the subject matter of the song with the intro choirs which are really the first verse of CB's Movement 14: In Taberna.

Quote
In taberna quando sumus,
Non curamus quid sit humus,
Sed ad ludum properamus,
Cui semper insudamus.
Quid agatur in taberna,
Ubi numus est pincerna,
Hoc est opus ut queratur,
Sic quid loquar, audiatur.
Which is about having fun and getting smashed. :) So, am I right?

We never comment on this matter.
All I can say is that this is the first time I've seen an "analysis" of the choir lyrics for World of Glass that actually holds some truth in it!  ;D
