Oh, it's nothing new already Tongue
I know it since Mary joined the band Wink I just trust the bandmembers of Tristania, they have a really good taste of music, so I just know that they wouldn't sell us something bad- that's all...
As somobody has already wrote somewhere- every single album of Tristania is different, so you can't say "where is the old Tristania???". What do you mean? "Widow's Weeds"? That was so many years ago! "Beyond The Veil"? Hi, then you're not fair, you forgot about "WW" -"BtV" is not a copy of "WW".
I just would like to say that Tristania shouldn't worry about the listeners- I'm sure that "the true fans" (they that follow the band from the beggining or from many years and enjoy music of Tristania no matter how different it sounds) will love it and also they find the new ones!

Hi. I'd like to ask you about your opinion about the new forthcoming album. Which of the previous Tristania albums would be the most sound-alike as of the new album for you? And why? Thank you and the whole band for the great music. Sincerely.

Hi Ole! Thank you so much for your post! Its really exciting to get to peek over the shoulder of you guys and get a glimpse of the creative process. I licked up every letter of Östen & Anders' posts, and thoroughly enjoyed yours.

From reading the post I don't really have any particular question, but would still like to try and coax you into writing some more. Smiley So here goes:

1) You mention your different musical background. Just how different is it? What are some of your favourite albums?

2) Is there any of the new tracks that you feel a special fondness of & that you could let slip some more details about?

3) How representative is The Emerald Piper of the new album? I vaguely recall you mentioning in an interview somewhere that there's more of a rock attitude overall.

4) Speaking of The Emerald Piper - was it chosen for the Wacken setlist om the grounds of being one of the most live-friendly tracks of the new album, or simply because it was closeat to completion?

Ok, veering a bit from the topic of your post here, so I'll leave it at that.

Really glad you're in the band! You're a bundle of energy on stage, and I much look forward to finding out just how that will manifest itself in the composing.

Best of luck!

Hello IonNorrec

I am really proud of the new songs, and the way that we have carried on with the spirit of Tristania, but still itīs completely new and fresh! There is a lot of variation on the album, many aspects remind me of the old Tristania. Not exactly the songwriting or the sounds, but the feeling. Itīs majestic and sad, powerful and angry.

I am really not sure soundwise, how it will sound yet. But I am sure it will be closer to Illumination sound, than Widows Weeds. Since we are collaborating with Waldemar Sorychta once again. But then again, the new songs are quite different than Illumination songs, and that would affect the sound. So itīs hard for me to say.

Thank you for your question and your support!

Hello pellevin, and thanks for your interest!

1) When it comes to favorite albums or bands, it changes over the years. But it is a nice "biography" of where my musical journey has gone, and made me the musician and music-lover that I am today. I can mention a few albums that has meant a lot to me before, and has played an important role in shaping me. (random order)

Deep Purple - Made in Japan (live),
Led Zeppelin - IV
Jethro Tull - War Child
Peter Gabriel - So
Clawfinger - Use Your Brain
Seigmen - Total
Michael Jackson - Bad
Dream Theater - Images & Words
Extol - Undeceived
Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness
Extreme - III Sides To Every Story
Marcus Miller - The Sun Donīt Lie
Mastodon - Crack The Skye

2) Hmm, I love all the songs now. They have all been subject of strict selection process, and if I or anyone else in the band didnīt approve a song, then we would have continued the working on it. But there are a few that stands a little closer to my heart. I can mention the song called Year of the Rat. That was the first song that was originally my idea. That makes it a very special song, because it sort of proved to me that this could work.

3) The Emerald Piper represent one of the musical directions, but not the main direction of the album. What we mean about more rock attitude is that we have several songs that are more "to the point", and faster.

4) The Emerald Piper is an amazing live song. We have played it five times I think, and every single time the crowd really responds. We had some new songs we wanted to play this summer, and The Emerald Piper just proved to instantly kick people around.

Thanks alot for your kind words and your support.

Have a great week!

Ole

Hello friends

We have been awfully quiet the last few months, I know, but weīve not been lazy! I still canīt reveal any more details on when the new album is coming out, but I can tell you a little about where we stand right now!

We have now written all the songs that are going to appear on the album. Me and Anders sat down this entire weekend and worked through every detail, turning every stone. There are still a few minor changes  to be made, but all in all the songs are done. Itīs going to be diverse and varied like before, and both me and Anders agree that it still sounds unmistakably like Tristania. I donīt feel like blowing up expectations too much, but there are a couple of tracks that are really going to treat the fans of large, powerful, melancholic metal.

We have not started the studio sessions yet, but the preparations are going strong. We are going to record the album in a couple of different studios in Norway this time, and have our producer/mixer mix it in a studio of his choice. I have visited several studios in the Oslo area to check out their availability, and if I feel like it is the right place to record our songs. I must say that especially the studio that we intend to record the drums in really impressed me. They have hi-end real vintage gear, and an amazing room, that should really be able to catch the atmosphere and make it really heavy!

We also have a very special surprise that we are working on. I canīt say anything concrete, but it is not a new thing.

Like I said before, I canīt say yet when the album is coming out, but I can promise you that we will start recording very soon.

If you donīt do it already, follow us on our official Twitter:

Have a great week, everyone!
Best
