A Sequel of Decay
« on: 09 September 2004, 17:28:54 »

I think "A Sequel of Decay" is one of their best songs, but I'm not that fond of the death vocals part. I understand it's a bridge to the chorus, but I find it a bit on the wrong place.

The songs overall atmosphere is gentle and melancholic and when you feel cozy some monster seems to jump the mic. Bye comfortable feeling!

What's your opinion on this?

it doesn't bother me at all. this song is perfect for me. its the first song of BTV that I got hooked on when it came out. and when i saw them play that song live, it was a total blast...  B)

Now that you mentionned it, I just listened to the song to refresh a bit my memory and I believe that this bridge is perfect this way, it kind of builds up the intensity for the chorus where there is some growls.. (pretty cool growls actually!  :P )
Oh, and this song is amazing !  :)

That's just what I like in a song- the transition from calmness and clean vocals to growling. I agree it's one of their best songs, and maybe along with Angellore it has quite a big deal clean male vocals

Actually this is something that I love about this song. First the slow melancholic song, then it picks up speed, in comes the deathgrowls and then Vibeke's extraordinary singing... gives me chills (in a good way) every time, it's very very good.

Yeah...that's a great song.
And I like the growls but I think it's not their best.

I love it when some songs are very various...

If someone likes doomy songs then he should try Draconian - The Cry of Silence.
Especially the Part at 9:23 or so.... but you have to listen to the whole song to enjoy it... amazing... :)
(hmm...doesn't fit really to the topic.... but anyway.. :))

I like the death growls in A Sequel of Decay.  Honestly I'm not a big fan of Osten Bergoy's monotonous voice so I'm glad Morten was in there to mix it up.  But the best part of the song is the Gregorian chant  :)

Monotone?

Hm... ok, he sings less dynamic than he did on WoG, but monotone?

For such an amazing song you can post 100 things off-topic... :) (if I have to say here anything... :))
Yeah.. The Solitude is very beautiful too... oh.. they're all great... :)

it is 9:20 btw...

Their next record is doomier they said... less female vocals... if they created more songs like this one.... then Ashes gets an hard rival... :)

I read an german review of this cd at powermetal.de, my bad translation of a part of it:
"If it wouldn't be too much for my fellow men and against law, I'd love to run around nacked and masturbating with a MD-discman listening to this music."
and the last Sentence: "I'm still slobbering around".. :):)

Hm I think my favorite song from Tristania at all...have many mamories with this song. I've heard this always when I fell bad, sad and melancholic...The choir is amazing I've never heard a band before with those kind of heavenly choir with in contrast to the male growl parts (might it fascinate me so much 'couse it was in my begining phase with those kind of music..I was alwas searching for this kind ..)
The one point wich is fascinating me on Tristania is on the one hand Vibeke with her amazing, beatiful, powerful voice with this heavenly choir in the backround and on the other hand the male growl voice. like "the beauty and the beast" and "A sequel of decay" is one of the best songs wich is uniting both things

Edit:

I suppose there'll be many spoken words since they got the singer from Necare for this job... :)

Hail to everyone, I'm new here though I can claim I'm a Tristania-fan since several years...
A Sequel of Decay was one of the first Tristania-songs that totally lead me astray! :o  :o  :o  Though I couldn't choose only one track out Beyond the Veil... way too hard! :o

I have no problem with this part of the song, it sounds good.

It's one of my all time favorites, power and sweetness all in one !
It was the first song I heard of Tristania, 2 years ago, and It was a bit difficult to assimilate the growls. It took me a long time to finally listen other songs from Tristania.

i loved Vibeke's vocals throughout this song.... the lyrics are simply beautiful and the instruments are amazing... i think it does stand out as one of tristania's best songs... gives one of the best examples of tristanias overall sound... just my opinion.

but then again i love all their work :)
