I've heard so many great things about tristania and now I want to buy one of their albums. So can you guys please tell me which one I should start off with, or which is your favorite. I heard that BTV was their best but I would like to know your opinions so I don't waste my money.

It's the only album I haven't bought yet, but from the songs I've heard, it is.

Beauty is in the "ears" of beholder!

Some day, BTV is the absolute best for me, some day is Ashes. Yesterday my favourite was WOG, Today WW does wonders for me. So it really depends on my mood.

But I gotta admit, BTV was my first Tristania album, so it has a VERY special place in my heart.

it is a good album, yes. but i think every album of tristania is good and i like all albusm of them (which is very rare with my taste)...and only because there are many who like btv it isn't the best. you must find out yourself, which one you like best.

It was a great album. Is it the best....nah! When I first heard of Tristania back in 1998, I though Widow's Weeds would be their best of all time and I still think that today. Beyond the veil defintely had better production quality but it wasn't as dark as the previous.

Maybe you like WW more, which is your opinion. Darker doesn't mean better. Instead, it is only fair to say which album you like better.

Generally I don't like comparing Tristania's albums, because they all move me in different ways. BTV isn't as dark as WW in terms of atmosphere, but it doesn't need to. (btw, the term "dark" is quite subjective, there are people who think BTV is darker) Just as their other albums, BTV simply describes an entire different emotion. While WW conveys sadness and cold, BTV is deadly and elegant at the same time. The vocal arangements on BTV are unpredictable and more extreme (both operatic and growling vocals), at times they sound like a battle between heaven and hell,  the music is also more complex and faster pace than WW. As much as I love WW, I personally think BTV is deeper and better composed in terms of lyrics, structures and arrangements.

In conclusion: You have to hear it for yourself to decide which one you like best..

So just buy them all. Never is a Tristania album a waste of money.

It is their best album. Every says "oh but WoG is better, lolz" - not really. BTV is musically, lyrically, and vocally better than WoG in my opinion.

WW & BTV > WoG & Ashes and no, I'm not just saying that because I love Morten.

Ehm, I think WW and BtV are the most favoured albums? (Even though I dislike WW with a passion.)

Honestly, I love WoG, but it gets really boring after spamming it for too long. >_>

Different people have different opinions but I'd have to say that it is their best work so far.

It's probably my second favorite. But WoG is still on top.

I think WoG is their best album. And I agree that BTV is the second one. I love some songs from this album, but some of them are average. It isn't a perfect CD but it's still very good one ;)

Well,I prefer Widow's Weeds, the music from Beyond the Veil is more agressive and power,as in Angina,Dementia or Heretique, but the lyrics from the debut album are great, maybe Widow's has the best goth lyrics forever and ever, they're great!! :o ::) I really think that the styles are really differents, but think that Widow's Weeds is better!
