When and how you discovered Tristania:
By late 2010 I was already pretty drawn into Female Fronted Goth Metal thing (Sirenia, Epica, After Forever) so checking out Tristania became a natural and inevitable step (happened in December that year and I joined these forums shortly)
Favorite Tristania album and why:
Hard to say but probably World of Glass.
Favorite Tristania song and why:
Again hard to say - actually a 2 CD "best of" would be about right to start describing my fave Tristania songs - but if I have to single out just one, it'd be Selling Out from World of Glass. Perfectly balanced vocals, heavy and well written music underneath and the emotional charge one can't ignore.
Reason(s) you love Tristania:
Probably same reasons as above - vocal balance, good heavy music and emotional charge - plus a healthy dose of diversity. From Cure to ...Of Ruins and Red Nightfall and from Heretique to Modern End, who would have thought it's the same band on first listen? I mean, I love Iron Maiden but they usually come in only two flavours: fast and thrashy, or thoughtful and progressively epic. And Tristania, they can be anything.
Have you ever seen Tristania live? If so, how was it?:
Not just yet. Hopefully at some point in the not so distant future.
Things you'd like to see [more of] in Tristania's music:
Evolution and progression into whatever sounds natural for the band.
Other favorite bands:
In the genre, EPICA and After Forever. Outside it, lots of 'em - Borknagar, Candlemass, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath / Iommi, Alice in Chains, Deep Purple, Opeth, even as far as Vangelis and Meat Loaf to name a few.

i have changes in "Other Fave Bands"

I wrote WT, pfffffff, it sucks, i like the Enter and The Dance era only

i have to add Draconian, Nota Profana, Dark Sanctuary, Autumn Tears, Dreamlike Horror, Tard, etc

I had to modify mine aswell. I can't believe I listed Paradise Lost and Mortemia without mentioning Bathory  >:(

When and how you discovered Tristania:
I discovered Tristania in 2008 but I never really liked them much till a year later. I was in my alternative rock phase and just barely starting to listen to female metal like Nightwish and Within Temptation after finding them out from Evanescence. But I heard My Lost Lenore and I was completely won over. I bought Widow's Weeds and...well...I'm a crazy fangirl
Favorite Tristania album and why:
Beyond the Veil!!! Best album EVER!!!
Favorite Tristania song and why:
Angellore!!! It's such a special song to me. It makes me extremely nostalgic and it makes me think of childhood and summer (my favorite season)
Reason(s) you love Tristania:
Many reasons. I love the atmosphere. It's so diverse...yet there's an element in every single song, from WW to Rubicon that defines them as Tristania. Plus, their sound is so alluring and hypnotic. You can't help but listen!!
Have you ever seen Tristania live? If so, how was it?:
Nope. I live in mainstream USA so I can't really see anyone I listen to live over here.
Things you'd like to see [more of] in Tristania's music:
I'd love to see an integration of more choirs in their newer stuff, but they don't have to go back to their roots or anything. I believe that they should do whatever they want to experiment and evolve as a band. So my true answer is that I'd like to see Tristania continue their experimentation and do whatever the hell they feel like doing :D
Other favorite bands:
I have a lot! I love Sirenia (Morten <3), Draconian, Epica, Nightwish, Swallow the Sun, How Like A Winter, Stream Of Passion, Bare Infinity, Elysion, Kerli, Emilie Autumn, Evanescence, Lethian Dreams, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, Within Temptation, The Agonist, Pink Floyd, and just about everything else except for Justin Bieber and RB.

When and how you discovered Tristania:

i knew them since the release of the debut album but started to listen them after Beyond the Veil when I borrowed the two first albums from a friend of mine.

Favorite Tristania album and why:

i was thinking about this today ;) i think Rubicon has become my number one tristania album, SO VERY MUCH FOLLOWED BY ASHES AND ILLUMINATION. you know, as i always said i consider them fucking great songwriters, with such a good taste that i see always there in their music, despite the changes many say have affected their talent. Rubicon features at least three of tristania's best songs ever, in my opinion; Illumination contains at least three other wonderful ballads that will remain unmatched as well, plus a male-vocals only song that in this field turns out to be quite original and last but not least stunning. and Ashes has so much classy potential in it that sometimes i'm even angry many despise(d) it just because they wanted growls and keys and soprano ooohs & aaahs every 2 seconds singing about the darkness of the soul and other shitty crap like that :P and yes, nowadays i can confirm what i thought in 2010: i'm more than happy with this line-up, i would never want vibeke back (except perhaps to hear destination departure and deadlands live) because i think mariangela can kick the ass of anyone and i don't regret ุsten at all because kjetil is one of my fav metal singers ever since his times in green carnation and trail of tears. not to mention that i don't regret morten at all, like i said many times in this forum.

Favorite Tristania song and why:

Hope many favs will be good as well ;)

A Sequel of Decay and Equilibrium because they bring me so many nice personal memories about a very close friend of mine; Shadowman and Endogenisis because, like i once wrote on tristania's myspace, listening to them is like meeting an old friend to me. something you "recognize". The Ravens and Fate because the lyrics are so great and fitting to me. Ab Initio, Deadlocked and Tender Trip on Eart (BUT in the live version with this lineup) because are wonderful, soaring ballads that lead me astray. Exile because the blend of music and lyrics and vocals just kills me and same goes for Amnesia; Illumination for its epicness.

Reason(s) you love Tristania:

guess they should be clear by reading above!

Have you ever seen Tristania live? If so, how was it?:

yes, i've seen them at the Evolution Fest here in italy back in 2006. they had been great of course, playing a couple of songs from Illumination like Sanguine Sky if i remember well and old classics like Sequel of Decay. they were really great, even though the sounds didn't pay them justice; by the way, you could feel some tension between the bandmembers even at the meet and greet...

Things you'd like to see [more of] in Tristania's music:

i'm happy with what we all already have now, really.

Other favorite bands:

really, too many. mostly black, doom, doom-gothic and a few symphonic metal outfits.

i wonder what's about nathalie rassoulis... she was a real talent and besides chaostar her contribution to septicflesh (especially The Fallen Temple) was incredible, check out this vid for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzjWP0qKAAM
