Cure is the best - I would like to drown all my sorrows while listening to that song one day. But First I need a handfull of sorrows and unhappiness
you shouldn't do that. just enjoy the song lol

For drowning my emotions I have used December Elegy and Deadlocked hehe ::)

Destination Departure and Deadlands are also good songs for that (which makes Illumination a good album since it hasn't got as much good songs as the others). Sometimes at my random playlists I get happy, depressed, peppy, nostalgic, etc. with only a few tristania songs.

Yeah it's incredible how Morten's growls with the guitar can sound cheerful.

What do you think Angellore is about? I remember us agreeing on that is was sort of saying ''goodbye'' :P I'm just curious since it makes you happy.

Have you read an Edgar Allan Poe's poem called "Lenore"? The whole widow's weeds idea has taken from there. Exactly "Angellore" I don't really know. Morten's lyrics from early tristania are just too indirect.

I don't really know what Angellore is about.
There's just something about the song that is really special. I kind of like it better to remain a mystery.

Magical Fix : The title sounds like a song by a wizard metal band, the whole song sounds like power metal. I slapped myself trying to wake up from a nightmare that is way too true, realizing that this song really is by Tristania. They might as well collaborate with Blind Guardian if they are to do more songs like that ... magical overdose . Enough said. That song sounds like Gothic metal has died and I might as well go larping

^I sometimes get the same feeling, however I still think that it adds something different in order to make Rubicon more diverse and enjoyable ;)

I guess it is a question of taste. Yes it made Rubicon diverse but enjoyable, not for me.  When I listened to Year of the Rat and Protection I thought that I would like Rubicon. It was energetic and different where Illumination often fell flat.  I found that Mariangela brought energy to the band. It was Tristania taking a more rockish approach while still keeping its uniqueness and it was a perfect start. But I found that the album went downwards afterwards, that it lost its uniqueness and energy. Magical Fix is to me the worse song Tristania ever did. It sounds like wizard and power metal, not like Tristania and I found it the wizard like music at the beginning and the high pitch male vocals atrocious ( not for it was off tune but for I dislike that type of music and vocals. And for it sounds like power metal not like Tristania and for it just did not belong.) , it sounded like Tristania has died a painful death and I seriously don't know what they were thinking, as an old fan and Gothic metal lover I felt betrayed

^ That's harsh! I guess you're not a fan of Mercyful Fate.  :P

I don't know, I never skip it when I listen to Rubicon, but it's definitely not a favourite either. It's over-the-top, but since when was Tristania known for subtlety? Remember in Angellore when they went "Into the night strays and ANGEL, so lost and tearful all astray..."? I just view the male "choir" vocals in the beginning and the silly verses and chorus as just that: silly. I don't think it's beyond any parameters set by the previous albums. I'd also rather have them make a hit-and-miss album, rather than a boring album.

The songs carrying the album in my opinion are Protection, Exile, Sirens and Amnesia.

Sorry for rambling  ;D

^I read somewhere that Magical Fix is actually one of Anders' fave ones to play in live performances haha.

Yeah, Rubicon has its highlights, which are to me; Amnesia, Exile and Vulture. Illumination is a quite great song also ;)

That'll get me banned but I'm now questioning Anders' taste because he also loves The Wretched (my least favourite Tristania song) but doesn't like Hatred Grows which I think is awesome. :)

LOL, 'The Wretched' is to me one of their best songs, but it is quite hard to fit into all of their fans indeed. Hatred Grows is a great song, but it is not the type of song that you would play on live performances and at the end, the bands like those ones more.

I agree that my post was harsh but it is how I felt when I heard Magical Fix. And as a matter of fact the only way I can tolerate Mercyful Fate is with the mute button on. I just find that genre of vocals shrill and unbearably annoying . It is not a question of talent, it is a question of musical taste. I would listen to Magical Fix over glam metal or cheesy pop but it is not a song I enjoy listening and I am not getting over the shock that this song is by Tristania.

You don't need to apologize, you have the right to have your opinions and to disagree.
