Albums of the moment
« on: 03 December 2010, 15:13:31 »

Well, the idea of this thread is to list the new albums or bands you've been listening lately, no matter if they actually are recently released albums or not. Feel free to add a description or links.
I got the idea from another forum and I think it's a good way of giving and taking recommendations

So, here I go:

Murder Construct - self-tilted EP: another supergroup, this time in the deathgrind style
Ehnahre - "The Man Closing Up": experimental death doom, very chaotic, ugly and sick. Great! http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/album/The_Man_Closing_Up_advance_/4149832
Ramesses, whole discography: sludge/stoner doom, even if the Metal Archives says they play death/doom
Aderlating - "Dying Of The Light": dark ambient/noise, very creepy, same guy from Gnaw Their Tongues http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/album/Dying_Of_The_Light/5253026
Monolithe, Nortt, Tyranny and Celestiial, whole discographies: great funeral doom bands
Dylath-Leen - "Insecure" and "Semeon": atmospheric death metal. I saw this band's name on a MFVF review a few weeks ago, and I hadn't too much faith in them, but once I listened to their albums I loved them!
http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/artist/Dylath_leen/804941

And a few that deserve higher levels of detail :P

Shining (Norway, not to be mistaken with the Swedish black metal band) - "Blackjazz": well, this here is probably the most groundbreaking album of 2010. This formerly acoustic jazz band has managed to create a unique and hard to label style of music. You'll find a good dose of technique with very strong progressive and electronic/industrial influences, along with extreme metal, noise, black metal screams and a monster of a sax player, but sounding not quite like any of these styles.
This is the first song's video:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qslyq8CcXu0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qslyq8CcXu0</a>
Warning: it may trigger a seizure XD
Full album here: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/playlist/Shining_Blackjazz/35165616
The band's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/shiningnorway
Or follow them on Twitter @SHININGofficial
Again, thank you Kjetil! :D

Triptykon - "Eparisteria Daimones" (and also the "Shatter" EP): the current band of former Celtic Frost guitarist and vocalist Tom G. Warrior. Doom metal with death, black and gothic influences, mind-blowing riffs, some great solos and a couple of quieter parts to add variety. I've been listening to this for 3 days and I already think it's one of the best doom albums of 2010!
http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/album/Eparistera_Daimones_by_Apostolzarodinu_/4391040

Servants Of The Apocalyptic Goat Rave - self-titled: "break core". That's how this insane style of electronic/industrial/whatever music is called. This is completely crazy! I had never listened to something like this before :o
http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/album/Servants_Of_The_Apocalyptic_Goat_Rave/5306200
Thank you Tjeerd!

Sailors With Wax Wings - self-titled: an unbelievable doom/ambient/post-rock supergroup. Heck, their line-up is so awesome it sounds like a joke: Ted Parsons (Swans/Godflesh/Prong), Colin Marston (Krallice/Behold... The Arctopus), Aidan Baker (Nadja), Simon Scott (Slowdive), Dominick Fernow (Prurient/Cold Cave), Vern Rumsey (Unwound), Hildur Gudnadottir (Mm/Throbbing Gristle/The Knife), Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Marissa Nadler, J. Leah, James Blackshaw, [and artwork by] David Tibet (Current 93) and Faith Coloccia (Mamiffer/Pyramids).
The atmospheres they create are incredible! Another of the best doom albums of 2010!

That's it for now. I hope the thread succeds ::)

Can we discuss them too? Other than ''cool albums'' and things like that? :P

Caedo's second demo (according to metal-archives). A great addition to any collection of Slavic Black Metal recordings of the last couple of years. If you liked the hypnotic and beautiful black metal of early Darkthrone and Burzum, then this is a treat! Especially the song Bolesť (spomienky na priepasť) is very haunting! I have been playing this demo countless times the last week.

Bolesť (spomienky na priepasť): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7DwGZ7ZUh0 [personal favourite]

I will listen to the ones you posted, Funeralord, probably tomorrow ;) I'm finally done with school for this semester!

Congratulations on finishing school!
That song on youtube sounded pretty good, but, what's the rar file's password?

White Moth - self-titled: "Sailors With Wax Wings part 2". This is the other project featuring the same sounds-like-a-joke unbelievable line-up from Sailors With Wax Wings. This was recorded at the same time than the SWWW album. I'm just listening to this for the second time as I write this, and it's awesome. Much more black metal-oriented than SWWW, considerably shorter (only 34:40) with some hip-hop influences (:o), keeping the huge amounts of atmosphere, but with a more aggressive approach. MASSIVE. Highly recommended!

Murder Construct were great! Listened to their three MySpace-songs right now.

Ordo Ad Chao - Mayhem
A very good album! Best by Mayhem since their magnum opus: De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas. Funeralord, you should recognize Attila from Sunn o))

Please do NOT share any unofficial album downloads at this forum. We might get in trouble for that!

@Funeralord: breakcore is a genre, check wikipedia for artists and such. A label which occasionally posts free releases is cock rock disco, check stuff here: http://cockrockdisco.com/freemusic.html
"Death of Mary Poppins" by Ladyscraper is pretty rough.

Seconding Shining's Blackjazz, after all these years still a fan of Deathspell Omega's Kens EP and still listening to Rubicon.

Should I have linked to the site who posted the download link then?

The site is basically promotion for unsigned band, I can't imagine them (Caedo) filing filing a lawsuit against this site. Besides, it's a demo :) I'm not arguing this site's policy or anything, just saying.

If it's an official site of the band, feel free to link it, but stuff like metalblogs are a no-no.

The Evoken & Beneath The Frozen Soil split!
Utterly heavy, crushing, dark, Evoken! Geniuses!

And also the second Ehnahre album, "Taming The Cannibals". More sickness and chaos!

"Death of Mary Poppins" by Ladyscraper is pretty rough.
Ugh, I'm listening to it right now. It's disgusting! Noisy and extreme as hell. It's an almost painful experience... I love it!
Also thanks a lot for the cock rock disco link! I'll make sure to check it out every now and then ;)

This. I've listened to "Oslobodenie" a couple of times last 3 days. Raw sound, good atmospheres and, like you said, "very haunting". I liked this very much! :D

Converge - "Axe To Fall" (2009)

Lots of energy, amazing riffs that get stuck in you head and make you wanna headbang like crazy, and the voices are laid back so they let you hear the guitars very clearly. This is a great album! Listened to it yesterday at work and couldn't help but move along ;D
Again, thank you Tjeerd!

Fans of Tristania's latest album might enjoy Anathema's We're Here Because We're Here. Both Ole and Kjetil mentioned this album when asked about what albums they have been listening to lately. Give Everything a listen! :)

Everything: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaXWp-3fL_E

I chose love...

↑ Seconding for sure, a great album by a great band ;)

I'm with Dark Tribe's latest album! It came out 4 months ago, but I just knew about it today :-\

6 years after beating even Deathspell Omega's "Si Monvmentvm..." (I wanna make clear that "Si Monvmentvm..." is one of my favorite black metal albums) in 2004 with their INCREDIBLE album "In Jeraspunta", this German black metal band is finally back. After the extreme madness, chaos, and confusion of "In Jeraspunta", I was expecting the band to continue along that line, but they didn't. Although that sound comes back in some passages, this album is overall a bit quieter, yet it still sounds amazing. The massive guitars, the inhuman screaming and overall weirdness and craziness are still there, but I miss the chantings a lot.
All in all, I think this is one of the best black metal albums of 2010!
Listen here: http://www.musicuo.com/#/search/album:Archaic%20Visions

And if you haven't listened to "In Jeraspunta", I strongly suggest that you do, it's their magnum opus:

I'm addicted to both the whole Melechesh discography (thank you escalate!) and Asva's second album, "What You Don't Know Is Frontier".

Melechesh is a brilliant Sumerian Black Metal band which masterfully mixes the agressiveness and dark atmosphere of extreme metal with the ancient middle-eastern folk music, with riffs that will blow your head at first listen.
This is one of their best songs, from their "Emissaries" album:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzhUwmfz7wc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzhUwmfz7wc</a>

And Asva is a US drone doom band which does use drumming, plus a lot of different sounds, and even some operatic-like vocals in a few parts, creating a very dark atmosphere but never getting boring.
This is the album I love from them, "What You Don't Know Is Frontier":

I'm too lazy to listen to every band / song recommended here ^^ Only one I took a look at was Anathema. I don't really like his voice, that makes it pretty hard for me to like the whole song, altough the instrumental side of it is very good =/

So, and now I want to recommend you Avathar, a finnish Black / Folk Metal band which deals with Tolkien themes. Yes, you may think "how boring" because there are a lot of Tolkien influenced bands out there, but they're very special, I think. For now, I didn't find another "Tolkien band" which is comparable to them.

They only released demos in a surprising good quality.

Their best song is for sure this one:
