I like it if the vocals are various too...

I just don't like growls if they are all time the same and you don't understand anything...
But could be good too if it's a stupid black metal band.. :)

This reminds me of something a friend of mine (and a great musician, by the way) said.  He loves black metal, but hates the lyrics, so he doesn't even bother reading the booklet.  I'm pretty much the same way with BM.  I'm not a satanist, so it doesn't appeal much to me.

Well my mp3-playlist contains both black metal as christian metal and I mumble the chorus often along, while I'm a natural religion-basher.

For me, music comes first, lyrics come second.

I really can't stand the stupid black metal image... it's sad that some bands/fans think this is a way of life...

Deadlocked:  What's even worse is that it IS a way of life.  Fortunately it's a fairly miniscule chunk of the demographics.  Now, without going into my spiritual/faith-related beliefs, I don't like anything that is excessively anti-religious nor anything that is overly preachy.  I don't like the corpse paint.  I think it's silly.  I also am very weary of bands who paint anti-crosses and inverted pentagrams on their CD covers or in their band logos.  To me, that represents that they are more concerned with image than musical integrity.  That being said, I really enjoy listening to Agathodaimon and Borknagar, those are by far the two Black Metal (if you can even call them that) bands that I like the most.

We deviate a lot...  :D

Yeah.. like them too... they don't care what the "true" bm fans say... the best attitude to make music imho...

Extremists are nearly always bad...

There are some bands I love who color their face, Virgin Black and The Vision Bleak, but they just bleach their face... and none of these "oh...i'm so true and evil" paintings...

Virgin Black... yeah their face paint is a little weird but the music (at least the first album, don't care so much for E&D) sure makes up for it.

I love the song "Museum of Iscariot"... very poignant lyrics.  I haven't heard The Vision Bleak (heard of them, just never really looked into them), I suppose I should.

There's this other band I really like... it's called "Tristania"... you may have heard of them...  :)

Here you can download the video for Wolfmoon ;) Btw there's an ex-Empyrium member in The Vision Bleak  :)
Virgin Black? Unique...
IMO neither of the bands can't be categorized black metal though

I find it difficult to classify Cradle of Filth a bm band. Mentioning them , it seems the image is what first comes to mind and they obviously regard it as something of crucial importance that sells the music. Personally speaking, I like Dusk and Her Embrace LP, and yet it is not strictly black metal. There are many influences, I would rather call their music a hybrid, some kind of horror-gothic-vampyre-black metal. They 're much of a laughing stock to the troO black metals, but the fact is when you hear  a song of theirs, you immediately know it's them. Another thing I'd like to point out is Dani's voice. It cannot be denied that he possesses great range and the capacity to shift from high screams to deep growls without taking a breath.

Well yea i agree, the reason i like em is because of the horror music they perfrom,
but have you seen from the cradle to enslave? sheer stupidty,
as for Dani's voice, i think its kind of computerized, i heard a live song for them, it appeared very different

Nordlys - Virgin Black definitely isn't black metal!  If anything, they're opera-goth.  I don't know what they are actually; half of the time it's not even metal.  I think we brought them up because of their makeup they wear onstage and in the pictures.

Cradle of Filth, hmm... haven't heard their new material but I like Damnation & a Day so it should be interesting.  I think Dani is more of an actor (anyone seen Cradle of Fear?  Nifty flick) than a musician, quite a character indeed.  They're really a hit-or-miss band for me; I don't like many full Cradle songs, but rather just parts of them.  But yeah, Dani is one wild vocalist.  That takes throat control.
