nightwish have surely been a great love of mine but since it's quite known among all my friends and not a secret at all even on the web, i'll make it short: for me nightwish mean nightwish with tarja, period.
every man has some weak points in his life and she is (with pride
) mine. after all you can't love something so much for so much time and expect to lov it as well when it drastically changes (which for me in this case means vocal-wise [not only technically of course] but also music-wise and concerts-wise).
this doeasn't mean i'm not interested in what they do anymore; i also saw them live in 2009 (being in first row with one of my best friends and enjoyed like hell due to that but, sorry, an terrible experience as far as the rest is concerned). i will surely check the new album out but, you know... ok, no hype, no excitement. just like awaiting a common, average album by an average band.
recently i was talking to some friends and thought that actually since i'm not a silly 13 (anymore
) it can't be that i don't like nighwish anymore just because tarja isn't the singer anymore; after all two other huge loves of mine (tristania and theatre of tragedy) suffered the same changes and i still love them like on the first day. so, in fact i don't think they suffered that much (and consider that i always worshipped liv kristine's vocals as well). so i came to the (sad?) conclusion that i never liked tuomas's songwriting as much as i thought. i still don't wanna believe to this but fact is that a song like Poet and the Pendulum, which wins also the hearts of most of old-time fans, simply leaves me indifferent.
anyway, i'd happily welcome a return to the past as far as symphonic parts are concerned! i'm a bit tired of all this orchestras in metal (in too many bands), with keyboard players pressing a key and then obtaining the sound of the philarmonic orchestra of wien
that isn't playing anymore i think... and moreover, all those symphonies in my opinion suffocate the rest a bit. i'd prefer to listen to proper classical music or scores, at this point.
