anyone else here who thinks The Gathering are just amazing?  :o

I simply love their music! They're one of those bands who keep changing and keep getting better and better, but their music as unified art stays classic.
Their music is really what can be called as ''atmospheric'', and their lyrics are so intelectual and woven with the question of all existence, all word, all feelings  that they keep surprising me; I can listen to them all the time but I will always find sth is their song that will amaze me over and over again.

And Anneke van Giersbergen is amazing, she's a wondeful vocalist, musician and lyrics writer. One of the best!

I agree.  I think Mandylion and How To Measure A Planet are two landmark albums that will never be matched in that female fronted rock/metal bands.

I like "Travel" the best. I have Sleepy Buildings, Superheat, If Then Else and How To Measure A Planet. I liked first 5 or 6 tracks of Souviners but then it just fell apart.

I'm also very fond of The Gathering, my favourite album is How To Measure A Planet. Anneke is a very good female lead:)

And my Souvenirs album was stolen   Too bad, I liked it a lot.

I love the Gathering. The semi acoustic shows on their last tour were one of the most beautiful concert experiences I ever had. Even the support band Flowing Tears got a standing ovation (it was a chaired show) on the gig I attended.

On the official the Gathering website there's a picture of Anneke and her newborn son Finn. It's for a limited time only.

When I first heared Ashes I thought permanently about "Mandylion". Especialy "Equilibrium" reminds me of some songs of that album... (The guitar arrangement is very simmilar)

hmm.. so I'm not the only one who thinks Ashes has some Gathering atmosphere.. :)

And about Finn - I hope he inspires the band to beautiful music.... hmm... I'm pretty sure he will... :)

I agree that the calmer moments on (ASHES) have a similar atmosphere to the Gathering. In some interview Anders was asked if they were influenced by the Gathering. He admited that he listened to Mandylion quiet often in the past but denied a direct influence.

The Gathering is all about beauty. Having a child is a beautiful thing. So it's most likely that Finn will inspire the band to do some more beautiful music. I just hope they'll keep the dark quality in their music.

Sure.. Anneke said that even if they're change their style... they never will make happy music... she even can't imagine that... :)

The Gathering are an amazing band. My favourites include 'Mandylion', 'Nighttime Birds' and 'How to Measure a Planet'.

Plus the track 'Saturnine' has nostalgic memories to do with mutually breaking up with a previous girlfriend... Those who have read the lyrics will understand!

Not at all, that was the first thingh I thought about when listening to Ashes... If there wasn't for typical tristanian components in the album and if I hadn't known it's Tristania, I'd say it's The Gathering...

and @Requiem.... Saturine also reminds me of my breakup with my ex bf.... That song is enchanted, I'm sure of that.....
