Trail of Tears is splitting up.
You can read Cathrine's statement at the band's official facebook page and Ronny's answer on his profile. Endre also announced he's leaving.

What a sad soap-opera we've got here :'(

Hm, ok Vibeke had left Tristania without a clear reason, but that was much much better than this, as you said, soap-opera :/
That's bad information, I was hoping for some European tour...
Hm, let's wait for the new Ronny's band...and for the Oscillation :)

I can't see how Ronny can "quit" the band since he's the only founding member left and it's been this way for a long time. Something isn't quite right here (yeah, I'm the real Captain of the Obvious, innit?)

But he isn't the main composer anymore (if he ever was), he's the one that decides which is gonna be the direction of the album and works on lyrics and vocals, but  the music is done by the other musicians in a 90%, take a look:

Update from Ronny:

"Had a great and productive conversation with Massacre Records today who are giving total support to myself, Endre Moe and Bjørn Dugstad Rønnow. A statement from the record company will follow shortly. "Oscillation" will INDEED be released on April 26th and it will be the LAST Trail of Tears album. Take care and much love!"

Understood, but this is often the case with vocalists - very often they don't write music but they do lyrics (if that much). At any rate, Ronny is the only one surviving from the older lineup, and since he's the one to have kept the bandname, I presume it's legally registered to him.

As an eagle-eyed reader elsewhere has noticed, the Metal-Archives.com list the band as "Active" but with only 3 members: Ronnie (no surprise), the bassist and the drummer. The "dissenters" (Catherine & Bjorn Erik Naess) have been moved to the "past members" section. So maybe everything isn't over just yet!

Didn't like it that much. Sounds like those electronic (synth) post-hardcore bands.

I'm not sure about it. Ronny said he was going to start something new, and the other two guys also said they were leaving.

It appears that the rhythm section is going to stick, especially since Ronny referred to them in his comments. Maybe they're going to change band name, but why should they? After all, unless Ronny somehow signed away the rights (which would've been a pretty foolish thing to do), the recognizable name is always better for promotion.
In the meantime, I think it's time to get acquainted with this band's music, if only for this reason. :)

Подобная ситуация, как в то время когда я в армии служил. Должен быть уволен в тот день когда находился на службе. Согласно устава я ещё не уволен, относительно человечность уволен в 1999 году. Не вероятная ситуация.

I loved it! It’s really sad to hear they’re splitting up though, I’ve always considered A New Dimension of Might to be one of the best albums ever, and from what I can hear seems like Oscillation will be just a good. At least they’re releasing one last album, but I’ll definitely mis ToT, I wish I had the chance to see them live at least once… Anyway, this song got me very hyped! Can’t wait till they release it.

Same thoughs here ;)

I know it's probably a silly idea to get the band together again, but I think they should make a farewell DVD just like Theatre of Tragedy did.

I think it's unlikely unless they've already filmed something; with the band split in two halves already I guess there are no chances to do anything new.

Well... I got their album Bloodstained Endurance, and so far I'm liking what I'm hearing.
The only niggle I have is that the song Dead End Gaze reminds me so much of the song M-Body off Voivod's Phobos album in spots. Must've been a rare coincidence though.

^Not their best album imo. Listen to their three first albums ;)
