I love metal, and im listening to Sirenia' sundown right now, but the impression I get everytime I listen to those guys is that they make albums that are really similar.....and Tristania changes a lot from one album to the other, somehow Tristania grow faster while Sirenia stays in the (more or less) same place over and over again. that's only my opinion, there's no need to call it bullshit man.  :D

and there should be people who even like the electronic albums of ToT ;) in fact i like them more than Storm.

bands which change their style will always get bashed from some people, so nothing new.. *g*

Personally I think a band should write the music they want to write and not what the fans expect them to write. I prefer to look at the piece of art that is created rather than who created it. I listen to Illumination as an album, not as music written by Tristania. See what I mean? :D I don't listen to it expecting something, I listen to it like someone discovering a new kind of music. ;D
I'm not an expert in Tristania (I only discovered them pretty recently) but I think that since Morten has left the band, it's as if you have to consider Tristania as being another band. Not all bands produce the same sound do they? ;) So without Morten, the "new" Tristania do their own music just like any other band in the world.
Though it's clear that I prefer BTV to Illumination but you can't compare because it's not really the same band (even if some band members are still the same as in 98). It's like trying to compare two different bands. ;)
Personally I'm a fan of both the old and the new Tristania. And of course I prefer some bands to other bands, just like I prefer the old Tristania to the new Tristania even if I like both. It's just like saying I like Leaves'Eyes but I prefer Nightwish.
Ok rather pointless post lol ::) ;D Just thought I'd add my opinion on the matter. :)

mad? well, you have widow's weeds. you can listen to it as much as you like, but you have to understand that they wont go to make another WW.  ;) it'd be senseless.

@lithium: no pointless post at all,  ;)

First you said, listening to Morten's music, is like listening the same bloody album again. And that's why I reacted calling it bullshit. I respect your opinion but I can say you that his music isn't quite 'always the same album'. Although the fact he uses much repitition in his songs, they are full of unexpected moments and well-structured, and if you ask me good sounding riffs that boil up, sometimes, out of nowhere. And that's what really shows, for me, that he's on a high level as a composer. If you study his music, and see how many genius parts there are into it, it is quite shocking to hear that one says that it's the same music over and over again. It's like someone who puts much efforts on studying high literature of a famous or infamous writer, gets passionate by his creations and then hears from someone that the works he's studying are crap. I know it is your opinion and I prefer it the way you worked it out in the now quoted post, than the mere shout, without arguments that it was in your first post. But you have to know that I respect your opinion.

well, yep ,sometimes i get too excited, sorry, heehee. but yeah, though I sometimes listen to Sirenia, I prefer Tristania for its changes.
but I understand what you mean  ;) one thing I still like about Sirenia is the choir, specially the male choir, they arrange good ones :)

Hello fellas!

Yes I am back (evil, mean and still bitchy)

I have taken a deep breath finally about two months ago and listened to Illumination and now I have taken the time to get to know the album as I welcomed it into my arms wide open.

The first impression was like, wow, this sounds promising, but I didn't get my hopes high, because I still had many tracks to go. But I gotta say I really like Illumination, it is a really solid gothic metal album, solid Tristania album. The first half of it is somehow to me personally more striking, powerful and organic, especially tracks such as Mercyside, Destination Departure, which is definately the highlight of Illumination, Sanguine Sky and The Ravens.

Overall the whole album has a really nice flow, I sensed some BTVish elements from moment to moment being vowed with the new Tristania sound; I also like the use of acoustic guitars accompaning the melodies. Melodies then again are really nice structured and momentarilly have a really light sound, but overall the structure of the whole album is IMO much better than it was on Ashes; I felt again that songs consist of several very strong and complex parts and they are bonded really nicely.

The vocals, well, yes, I would really love to have more extreme vocals, it would give the album the edge and sharpness I am missing in Tristania from the old days, but again, Vibeke seems more confident again with her new stlye, which flows from operatic to rock, more shaped than it was on Ashes. Osten is the same as he was, flawfless with his specific voice colour that fits Tristania the best.

So I can say I am really pleased with this album, I guess I am regaining my respect for Tristania as artists and composers and not just a mass of very talented and precise musicians. The only minus are imo lyrics, I really like the sur-realistic/romantic idea of the lyrics, but the composure of text is just not something that would fit me. I could read their older lyrics as poems easily, and as perfect poems, filled with ecstasy but the new style just falls out mellow.

Go Tristania!  ;D

My God,com'on,Nine Destinies and a Downfall is a bad, very bad work, but Illumination is the dissapointment in person,in my opinion!Seems a fake of album, what kind of "originality" has it?!
