Lotus - "All woods have to fail"?
« on: 24 January 2011, 16:21:42 »

Hello,

I wanted to write an article referring Lotus in a forum and when I cross referenced the text as I always understood it with what is written on the Tristania site, I found that I didn't quite understand it right.

I always understood "All wounds have to fade", yet it says "all woods have fail". What's that supposed to mean? That she cast a spell on the addressed, so he can't have a woody anymore? Did anyone ever hear an explanation for that?

I always found that line strange.  But it does sound as though it is what's written on the site.  Perhaps it's supposed to be "All wards have to fail", with the meaning of ward as in setting a (possibly magical) ward over someone to protect them.  Though I'm still not sure that makes sense.

J.R.R. Tolkien - The Fellowship of the Ring.

Frodo sings:

O! Wanderers in the shadowed land
despair not! For though dark they stand,
all woods there be must end at last,
and see the open sun go past:
the setting sun, the rising sun,
the day's end, or the day begun.
For east or west all woods must fail ...

I hope this helps. - WB
