Wormwood: I can say only one thing to your ultra-long post: band MUST evolve, or I'll get bored very quickly. If you call it apologism, than there is nothing more I can say to you...

Aardschok (the biggest dutch metal magazine as far as I know) gave the album a 82 (out of 100).

They also have a poll amongst all the editors in which they all give their numbers on all reviewed albums: the highest score was by the aforementioned reviewer with a 82, the lowest a 69 and the average of all combined scores is 77.

"
Folks, this is simply the #1 Goth band in the world and even after all the changes with the coming and goings of band members, they keep getting better and better.

7/10 http://www.pandaimonix.de/reviews/Tristania-Illumination.htm
They miss the dark voices (growls), and say that Tristania will end as a Metal-version of Loreena McKennitt
ANd they say that Tristania was (BTV-time) the evil sister of Nightwish.. ;) but nearly nothing still exists from that time...

8,5/10 http://www.metalzone.biz/php/modules.php?n...wcontent&id=474
in spanish, the reviewer recommends it to everyone and loves the album

7.5/10 http://www.soniccathedral.com/webzine/inde...d=209&Itemid=35
from someone who disliked Ashes, so not so bad...

in Geman - critizies that it's not poppy enough

http://www.zeromag.com/articles/cd_view.ph...3c0474718d4c84f
didn't like Ashes, thinks Illumination is a step in the right direction but the band could do better

4/5 http://www.wallsoffire.de/Reviews/show_rev...?kritik_id=7712
in German, thinks it's three steps forward compared to Ashes and the most important album since BTV - better than he expected

4/6 http://www.imhotep.fi/en/index.php?option=...emid=79&lang=en
“Illumination” doesn’t bring Tristania back to its former glory, but it’s still good enough to ensure the band’s position among the leading groups of its genre.

8,5/10 http://www.bravewords.com/hardwares/1001130
reasonable.. :) "Never one-dimensional, Tristania manages to achieve a beautiful elegance of flow – within each song and with respect to the album as a whole.  "

4/5 http://www.osnametal.de/art_cds.php?view=a...letter=A&id=910
in German, just critisized that there's too less diversication

http://www.dagheisha.com/music_section/cd.asp?idus=1227 (italian)
3/5 http://www.heavy-metal.it/recensioni/album_templ.php?id=1775 (italian) it says the album is nothing original, that it doesn't deserve attention and that it's judst decent
6/10 http://www.metalitalia.com/cds/view.php?id=15&cd_pk=4795 according to this review the album is really close to Lacuna Coil and HIM. It also says that it's boring and uninspired, like a simplified version of Ashes

in Metal Hammer (italian version) the album scored 7.5 and it's described as one of Tristania's best releases!

Personnally, I just love Illumination, I have been listening to it in loop since I got it two days ago and I am not bored of it yet (a good sign for me  :)  ).

I can never understand why people always try to compare albums each time a new one comes out. I mean, when I listen to a new CD, I don't ask myself if it is better or worst than the ones before, I just listen to it as it if was the first album of a new band, and I feel whether I like it. For me music is a question of feelings and I don't get too analytical on why I like a CD or not :) .

Haven't detected any new Metal/Goth mags today at the railway station... but some other reviews from the internet:

http://www.neckbreaker.de/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1338&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
7,5/10 German, thinks that Tristania is able to do better, but overall not that bad

http://www.metal-observer.com/articles.php?lid=1&sid=1&id=11841
7,5/10  likes it but thinks it sounds like Tristania is searching their own way or so..
isn't Tristania always exploring new paths?.. :)

http://www.tonguesofdestruction.com/readarticle.php?article_id=790
9/10 German, thinks it's the best Tristania release so far and wouldn't considering listening to other average Gothmetal anymore :)
