Here is a review that i make a few days ago i know that some people will get mad at me but remember that is just based on the Samples, so you can post wath you fell whith this new album

Illumination

Great album or just another one?

A few days ago I have the pleasure of listening samples for the forthcoming album of Tristania, at first side it sound good but maybe it was just the impression of get the samples when the album came out of stores in more than a month.

There are some tracks that I practically can listen Nightwish

I almost canít hear death grunts

Some tracks sound like the new sound of a few bands with new albums (donít know if is just fashion but I hope is just a face) like Lacrimas Profundere, 69 eyes, him. I donít have anything against them but I donít like that sound on Tristania (and yes I mean it because Osten voice get more participate in this album)

And once again were the fuck is the death grunt, that is something that I like from Tristania

Ok maybe the samples was chosen for one of those Osten Holics, so that mean that I have to wait to listen the hole tracks to the beginning to the end,  maybe the death grunts are there but not in the samples

I Hope once again

I've been listening to the leaked album for 3 days now. To be honest, I did not like illumination at all when I first heard it, I almost wanted to cry. This is not the Tristiania that I'd known of, I wasn't used to so much Osten + Vibeke vocals, I missed the growls and I did not like the goth rock influences. (I'm an obsessed BTV fan!!!) But once I got passed the fact that this is yet another very different Tristania offering, I started to enjoy it more and more. After 3 or 4 listens, I'm hooked.

I think Illumination is a very good album, and you can safely say that I'm already addicted to it. After the initial shock, I realised there are still plenty of Tristania sounds/atmosphere in the music, even though it's not a typical Tristania album. The band like to experiment, I don't think they will stick to this style in the future, let's enjoy it while you can.  You have to give it a chance!

So far, my favourite songs are The Ravens, Down and Deadlands

From what I can hear in the samples, they certianly have evolved from Ashes. At first listen it seemed a little... dull, I think, but as I listen I'm begginning to feel a familliar, beautiful 'Tristanian' atmosphere form. I'm pleased Vibeke is using a more 'Classical' voice on some tracks :)  So far really liking Deadlands and Open Ground (love it when Osten and Vibeke sing together like that :D )

From the samples I can tell it's gonna be good! Open Ground sounds good I like how ōsten sings on it, Down sounds good too. The first track sounds a bit odd (Mercyside) since that lacuna coil guitar riff sound. But I like it none the less. Destination Departure sounds very pretty..atleast to me. Thats the only whole song I ever heard.

well i have gotten a leaked copy of illumination and have heard it in its entirity . i think its a great cd . the vocals are different but still good . which is good when a band can keep on progressing and changing a little each cd . to all the people who dont like it give it a chance its a good cd .yeah the growls are limited and i would have liked to see more but there isnt . but just because of lack of growls dosent make the cd bad .its impressive when a band that has used so many growls in the past can actually cut them out and still release a great cd . once again give it a chance

well it's like the new Sirenia... it lacks the fuckin' growls or grunts or whatever you call it

why don't they put out two edition of the records ?
one without grunts
one WITH grunts

I love Illumination, and although I miss the grunts, I think its far better than Ashes. Sacrilege has quickly become one of my favourite songs ever. Mercyside is also a brilliant track, it has everything.

AT first you'd hate, then you'll love it
It sounds quite differnet and nothing like the previous albums so don't expect anything when listenin to this album, and you'll fall in love with it after 2-3 listens.
The Tristania sound is there, that eirrie sad feeling
Quite addicted to the beginning of Lotus right now

Illumination is a really great album. [link removed by admin]
It does have (like some of you mentionned) a sound that resembles a bit to Nightwish. Since I'm not a fan of grunts (noise for nothing hehe) I was really pleased that there were a lot less grunts than on the previous album. I don't even notice the absence of grunts.
I'm not at all disapointed by this album, I think it's one of the best that Tristania has made.
What is disapointing I have to admit is that it can sound sometimes a lot like what Theatre of Tragedy used to do (kind of electronic metal or whatever you call it). I didn't really like the fact that Osten sings with an "electronic" voice, just like in Theatre of Tragedy. He had a very beautifull voice on Ashes, but on Illumination it is a bit destroyed by the fact that they have put some electronic stuff over his voice to cover it a bit.
I like all the songs of Illumination, Vibeke's voice is perfect. The only thing that is disappointing is that they made the music pretty electronic, otherwise Illumination is a great album!

I've just given this album another listen, and I'm officially in love with it! it's very beautiful and very diverse.

I don't think it sounds like Nightwish because I don't like them. <_<

To hear that there are even less gruns on Illumniation is really sad.

Another step away from extreme music, to more normal sounding songs. REALLY sad.

But I have to listen to it to say more ;)

I think in EXACTLY the same way, hehe.
The only difference is that my favourite songs are The Ravens, Mercyside, Sacrilege (it remains me "old-Tristania") and Deadlands

I can't even get through the whole album without being embarassed and turning it off. I've enjoyed every Tristania album but this one.

That was EXACTLY my first reaction.

Now I can't get through a day without listening to the album at least once.   BTV will always be my favourite, no doubt. And I'm not ready to compare Illumination with Ashes (I'm an Ashes fan too) yet, but upon my 3rd listen, I could already tell Illumination is WAY better than WOG in every possible way. WOG is Tristania's weakest release in my opinion, not to say I don't like it though. Ironically, WOG was the one and only Tristania album I liked upon first listen.

I think my music taste has improved dramatically over the years.

Edit: Another one, not so positive this time, but the line "They certainly didnít surpass Lacuna Coil or Nightwish with Illumination." sais enough.

'Now I had the opportunity to listen to the album for a couple of times.

It's great I think. It's far more gothic than ashes was  .. it's less hard concerning the guitar play, but it's very ok.

Can't wait to get my copy of it :) Hoper there will be a digi..
