But BTV isn't really doom. It does sound kinda close to symphonic BM, esp. if you compare it with Dimmu Borgir's early works, BTV is almost heavier, not to mention  Morten's vocals are quite blackish.

i am sorry but i will have to totally disagree with you blackmetal is composed of satanic lyrics, thats why it is called black metal .they talk about evil stuff, stuff against god, not write songs in the vain of edgar allen  poe .tristania has put way more dedication to there music than blackmetal bands do .there lyrics are better ,and  black metal is not really a heavy music to begin with its mainly fast and aggressive with a mid to low screech for vocals which morten doesnt do . but they arent doom metal either, they are just metal with gothic lyrics . there are way too many categories that people came up with to describe what used to be easily described as metal .

dont get me wrong i love black metal in all forms i never said it took lots of talent to write the lyrics to it though

I know and I agree with you 100%. In no way I'd call Tristania  black metal, I was just talking how BTV sounded like as opposed to gothic doom. There are at least some BM influences on BTV, not lyrically of course.   They not only used growls, they also used a shrieky kind of vocal style on BTV, which is more reminscent of black metal. And musically if you compare it with Dimmu's early works, there are some slight similarities (I'm not saying Tristania sound like Dimmu at all, don't get me wrong...)
