I feel much like you, Mr. Jack. 'twas quite a shock to see how little is going on here when I got back from my in-patient stay.

Darkest White / Re: Your Thoughts on "Darkest White"

I finally got to listen to the album. Laaaate, I know, but somehow there never was the money und opportunity.

It took me a while to get into the album. I didn't expect such rawness, although I knew Cathedral and Requiem from the live videos on Youtube. Especially Number caught me totally unaware - but I have to say, I absolutely LOVE the black metal edge! I also like the somewhat dirty production, and I don't think the slower songs are 'crippled' by it, as reumeren does. But that is surely a point that splits the fan, since everyone has their own taste.
I agree with reumeren when it gets to the sometimes silly lyrics, though. Still, I like them a lot, although I still mourn that Morten isn't there with his great gothic lyrics. But, Tristania have taken a whole different way ever since he left, so it's okay for me. What's not that okay is the fact that Einar doesn't contribute that much anymore - I really miss his outstanding keyboard arrangements.

I think Darkest White is a good release, but really not their best, although better than Rubicon imo (never really got into this album, sadly). The new-found edginess suits the vocals really well and makes Darkest White a not-so-usual gothic metal release that surely stands out of the great mass of bands in this genre. On my blog, I will rate it with 4 out of 5, with my favourite songs being Number, Himmelfall and Arteries.
But, and that's my overall problem: It isn't the Tristania I loved for so long. It's not that I can't adapt to new directions (Elvenking changed from somewhat jolly folk power metal to a sudden, raw harshness with "The Scythe", and it's now my favourite album of theirs). I just can't stand it when there's almost nothing left of the trademarks. And that's the case with the new Tristania.

2013 Tours/Concerts / Re: European tour with Dark Tranquillity
« on: 17 August 2013, 01:06:08 »
No location near me, sadly :( I would've loved to finally see Tristania. I wasn't able to go to the concert in Hamburg last time they played there. And now, the nearest town of all would be Frankfurt, and that I can't afford.

But to be honest, I would not want to see Dark Tranquillity live. I never really warmed up with this band.

(I'm sorry that my English sucks that much at the moment. I really don't know why ...)

Wolfsheim - The Sparrows and the Nightingales.

Jep, 90's Synthie Pop. Sometimes I am that nostalgic.

A Pale Horse Named Death - Dead of Winter.

Now I have chills. I swear, it could be 40C outside, and this song makes you feel cold. Ideal for authors who write in a winter scenery :D

Haha, that's nice, I just stumbled over your band, Walran. I like what you're doing, and I'll be definitely watching Angellore closely.

I love the overall dark, somewhat raw feeling of the songs. So far, I like "Number", "Scarling" and "Arteries" the most. Can't wait for the album to be released, it seems to be a pretty decent mixture of Ashes and Rubicon.

Although I didn't like Rubicon THAT much, I'm really anxious of this new release. Thanks for the info!

Nightwish with Floor, various records.

I just think Floor fits almost perfectly in both old and new era songs. Would hope Nightwish'll keep her, but I don't think she will leave ReVamp behind.

Does anybody here speak German? And if yes, is it possible to learn that lenguaje in about a year with effort?

It's my mother language, and I'm really, really grateful for that. German is one of the most terrible languages to learn. I don't know exactly what's so challenging, but there has to be something that makes it hard to learn German. So I don't think you can learn it in only one year. Maybe in 2 or 3, but then you're still no master. I know people that migrated from all over the world to Germany, live here for about 5 to 10 years and still don't speak German fluently.

Another challenge for you would be the Austrian German. You must know, there are some differences between Standard German and Austrian German. They have a lot of terms that differ to those we use in Germany. And the dialect! Makes it hard to understand them sometimes, even for me ;)

Brainstorm - On The Spur of the Moment (album)

A German Power Metal band I discovered today. They're pretty good, with catchy sing-along songs, but not without some niveau. I like them :)

Just pushing this thread for self-promotion: I have a new blog. A Pathway to Hell and Seelenkabinett have been closed 'cause I felt like I need something new. You can find the new one here: http://narreteyundketzerey.blogspot.de/ Unfortunately only in German at the moment. I'll translate the postings somewhen, though - maybe in a new blog, who knows? ;)

I've just had a short argument with someone about Mary in Tristania. I'm sick of those "Mary is killing Tristania" coments. Oh god, Vibeke was amazing but just get over it and try to enjoy the new Tristania which is quite great too >:(

There is a great bunch of those flamers & haters out there. They just don't deserve the attention, because for all good reasons you tell them for liking this and that singer, they'll forever hang after their precious Vibeke/Tarja/whatsoever. Believe me, I've got quite a lot of this arguments over the Tarja/Anette discussion on Youtube, and sometime I found out it just ain't worth it. Just costs you nerves. Better enjoy the good music and celebrate the fact you're not too dumb-witted to miss it just because a new singer appeared.
Just my two cents.

I feel very sick. Headache, flickering before the eyes, nausea, dizziness... I really don't know what it is, I just have guesses, such as meteoropathy or circulation problems. Let's see what the next days will bring. If it doesn't get better, I'll visit my doctor.

Rubicon / Re: Sign up for The Emerald Piper fan club!

I think The Emerald Piper is actually one of the best songs on Rubicon. It somehow possesses a... soul that the other songs are missing.
