Ole Vistnes comments: ‘After the release of Rubicon in 2010, I felt that we had opened the door to our new musical landscape, but that we still had a lot of places to explore creatively. With Darkest White we have dug deeper, searched wider and reached higher to create the most musically challenging and emotionally involving album we possibly could.

2013 Tours/Concerts / Want Tristania near you? Read this!
« on: 04 February 2013, 11:03:58 »
We've seen many requests of people who want the band to perform in certain countries/settlements. But the band doesn't plan their tours by them self, this is done by their concert management.

If you want to see the band at your preferred venue/festival, contact it's programmer/manager and ask him/her to take a look at or book the band. It's quite likely they want to know how the band sounds like, so direct them to the soundclips at http://www.myspace.com/tristania

Tristania's concerts are being handled by Continental Concerts.

For those to you who didn't crumple to dust once they got radiated with all this white:
the custom theme didn't survive the forum-upgrade, so I'm going to rebuild it!

I can't give a date when it's finished, but it will be back! Security over eye-candy! ;)

Also, I installed a plugin which posts news from the website to the "band news" forum. It might happen it updates the forum with already published material, so bear with me!

Band News / Banner

The banner in the top was added on behalf of the band. I'll try to find a static banner, because this is (a bit) over the top.

General Conversation / Random fake albums
« on: 05 January 2011, 14:32:32 »
1 - Go to wikipedia and hit random. The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 - Go to quotationspage.com and hit random. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”. Third picture no matter what ...it is, will be your album cover.
4 - Use photoshop or similar (picnik.com is a free online photo editor) to put it all together.
5 - Upload the result (photoshack.us is a free service) and post it in here

Due to an inattentiveness on my side I accidently deleted the forums and a backup was restored.

Due to this about 36 hours of posts have been lost. My apologies for the inconvenience!

General Music / System Divide
« on: 18 October 2010, 16:23:23 »
Since some people seem to be intrested in all kinds of bands with female voices I present you: System Divide.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EefemUS1s9s

Formed by Sven de Caluwé (vocalist/bandleader of one of belgiums biggest death metal bands Aborted) and his wife Miri Milman (a.o. Orphaned Land) with some american musicians.
This aches more to deathcore than anything else, but the arabian/israeli vibe from time to time are quite nice.

Svens vocals in this track are sick by the way, I really like them.

General Music / Asrai
« on: 08 October 2010, 00:39:17 »
Since this is the Dutch addition on the Rubicon tour.

Asrai's roots lay in the 1980s. The band was formed in 1985 and changed their name in 1988 to Asrai. Several of its members played in various punk and new-wave bands. At that time their music already had a melancholic dark side.

They had some exposure on Dutch music TV-channels (when they were still music TV-channels) with the following song: Pale Light

I think this is the most "traditional" gothic band of the tour, considering their background in punk and new-wave.

Nice to have bands from three decades in this tour: Asrai from 1985 (when I was 4 :o), Tristania from 1996 and UnSun from 2006.

Band News / Signing/meet and greet session in London
« on: 06 October 2010, 19:21:51 »
To celebrate the European leg of the Rubicon Tour, there will be a signing session/meet and greet with Tristania at mid-day in Camden, London on Friday October 8th.

The happening will take place in the PSYLO Store from 12am on the 8th of October, in The Stables Market Camden Town, Unit 49, in London.

“We know there has been great interest for our show in London, and when the idea came from PSYLO to do a signing/meet and great session we thought this would be a nice treat to our fans going to the show. We’re looking forward to the European leg of the Rubicon Tour very much, and this will kick it all of nicely” the band says in a statement.

Made some behind-the-scenes technical changes, but the most visible for you is:
- Enabled the option to see spiders (search engine scripts) and made them pink in colour on the "Who's online?"-list. Now we can see who are spying on us! ;)

Quite suprised there hasn't been a thread yet on this project by Pete Johansen (contributing violinplayer of TSOTB & Tristania). (It aches more

Anyone who've listened to the album? (The cover of the Police's "Every breathe you take" isn't that good, IMO.)

Band Interviews / Metalfan.ro interview with Ole

Metalfan: I was wondering about the title of the album and the message it carries, together with the cover: a picture of Mariangela and the words Tristania, Rubicon. Like saying that her joining the band and the consequent record is a point of no return (a Rubicon) and daring the listener to pass it. Am I speculating too far?
Ole: The title “Rubicon” is not a “meta”-title, that represents the band from an outside perspective. It sums up a lyrical concept that emerged from the songs as the writing commenced. “Rubicon” is not a concept album, but many of the lyrics deal with the same issues, and we felt the title preserved much of both the symbolics and atmosphere in the lyrics. This is also Mariangela from Italy´s first album with Tristania, and we felt that referring to an actual place in Italy also was a nice feature to really introduce her. But I´m not gonna dictate people on what to read into the title, or the lyrics or the music at all. It´s all up to the listener.

What was the recording process like? Did you produce the album?
Yes, me and Anders handled the production, with aid from Waldemar Sorychta as a co-producer. The recording was done in three different studios. In Tanken Studio in Oslo we recorded the drums with engineer Fredrik Wallumrød, in Amadeus Studio in Oslo we recorded the vocals with engineer Sigmund Vegge, and finally the bass, guitars, violins, additional vocals were recorded in K-Lab Studio in Stavanger, where we did the engineering ourselves. The recording and production process was very hectic and the workload was very heavy, but it was also a true delight, because we had done really good preparations in the pre-production, and we were 100 percent confident with respect to the material.
