My renewed thoughts on this album and the "new" line up
« on: 22 October 2011, 21:56:58 »

So at first I was very critical about Rubicon not because I didn’t like it, I always did, but I wasn’t able to recognize “Tristania” in it, Vibeke’s departure and the lack of official information on why did she left on such a short notice didn’t help either she is my favorite singer of all time and I didn’t even was sure if she left by her own will and why or if she was kicked out of the band or what the hell happened, soon enough Osten left the band too and several members of the band had been replaced over the years and I was left watching as my favorite band of all time disappeared without even having an opportunity to see them live, I wasn’t really fair with my judgment when I first listened to Rubicon, it took me a long time to get over this but a few months back as I listened to Rubicon again I was left with the feeling of having listened to Tristania for the first time that I listened to this album, the more I listened the more I realized this new sound, as different as it is, still has the “old” Tristania feeling and influence, I realized that as I keep listening to the songs they grow on me like the old Tritania did, when I listened to other bands or singers it normally goes the other way around the first impressions are the best and the songs slowly start to be less and less impressive until I just come to the conclusion that I don’t even like them after all, with Tristania is different the more I listen to their music the more I like it, as much as I will miss Viebeke and Osten (and whoever says individuals are not that important for the band as whole then you are seriously wrong, specially with singers they have unique styles and voices that can’t be replaced and help to create the sound and feel of the music on their own way) I realize that Kjetil and specially Mariangela are extremely accomplished vocalist for the band too, their work on Rubicon was impressive and even though the whole sound has changed and their voices are very different from the previous singers they still managed to give the same old “feeling” the band is recognized for, Rubicon is a masterpiece and I love it, this new line up are worthy successors and have all the right to be called Tristania, Beyond the Veil is still my favorite album from Tristania (hell is my favorite album of all time) but Rubicon is more than worthy to be put up there with the rest of the discography of Tristania, I will not have to say “new Tristania” or “old Tristania” again, now it’s just Tristania and they are still my favorite band. Can’t wait till they release a new album now hahaha  :P

The good albums usually take a while to sink in.

I don't suppose you've heard of something called paragraphs or the full stop...

I tried reading what you said but I got lost a few times trying to read it so I gave up, sorry.  ???

When you start listening to this type of music if think it does. Later you get into good stuff a lot faster imo..
