Tristania demo
« on: 27 November 2006, 13:03:16 »

A friend of mine owns an original demo of the first Tristania-album, the one only printed in 500 copies. The Tristania homepage states this is almost impossible to get a hold of, I almost fell off my chair when I found it hidden in his cd-collection :P As he recons me a bigger Tristania-fan than himself, he has offered me this cd as a gift, which I refused because I think at least I should pay him the cash value for it.

But I have no clue what it's cash value would be, what would you people be willing to pay for such (at least in my eyes) a treasure? Is it so impossible to get a hold of as the homepage states?

Haha if I found it in a record store I would also try to buy it for 10 euros

But I think offering 10-30 euros for it would only be an insult to my friend..

I think I'd take it as a present, because you can't pay a fair price for both sides, your friend doesn't want money but just making you happy :)

Give your friend something else, something he would be happy to get.

Arguing about money is odd imho

You can give your friend a CD that he likes and maybe you have....or go and buy it and tell him that you find it in your closet

Basically, I found the demo album of Tristania (the one with 4 tracks, Sirene, MT, PE, A Cease toExist) in a central CD store in Thessaloniki. It costs approximately 12,90Euros. Is that the same album with 500 copies? I think noooooooo..........

They made a new release of the demo after they got signed with Napalm, with the same songs but supposedly better sound (as the original demo was financed by themselves). This new release is still available for sale, but has a different cover than the original demo. I already own the new release, but as greedy as I am I want both :)

Thanks for the tips, everyone.. still have to decide what to do but there's no need to hurry  :)

There was a re-issue. The re-issue has better sound quality, and has been released to the public, although I think its out of print now. The re-issue is probably the one you're thinking about. I'd refer you to the Discography page on Tristania.com, but I can't get the link. The original has a reddish-coloured cover, and the re-release has a landscape for a cover.

Basically, the original is no more than a collectors item, now that the tracks are available on the re-issue which you can order off the internet or even find in your local CD store if you're lucky.

Play.com have the new release on stock. That's where I ordered it from. But if you buy the Midwinter Tears album you get all the songs from both the demo plus the Angina single (Saturnine is not on any other full-length albums), plus a dvd with some concert recordings and stuff..

Discography from the old website is found here.

Yes, I meant the release, and I just bought it!!!

The sound is excellent!!!!!!!! I think it's better than the sound of Widow's Weeds..

But I have one question. Sorry for that, but I have Widow's Weeds and Tristania demo (until now) in mp3's, downloaded from net. But now, I'm not sure if the versions of Midwintertears and Pale Enchantress are the correct ones. I mean, in the demo, I have the demo versions or the WW versions, and the opposite. How can I find out which version is the correct?

PS. I have bought the original demo, so I think I could compare that, but it's just a little bit tough...

Edit!

I found out that in Pale Enchantress, in WW version, in 1:46 Vibeke says " Come to me, with thy eyes...." and in demo version we do NOT hear that. Is that correct?
