Rather difficult to choose because I'm afraid I don't like this album nearly as much as any other Tristania album to date. Heresy I know, but I feel both the guitar sound, a lot of subject matter and the whole way the album is built is very dated. Perfect late 90's Gothic Metal but just like many people say the Hair Metal sound would rather remain in the 80s and grunge in early 90s, this is... just incredibly late 90s.
Growling being a predominant style of singing here doesn't help matters either. I feel Morten is grossly overusing gothic imagery in lyrics (interestingly less so on Beyond the Veil and then less and less, on and off, on Sirenia's albums) that can get tiresome after a while. Upon the first few listens the album sounds to me like a continuous stream of same tempo, the standout parts being these small instrumental schticks the band pulls off from time to time. Angellore, My Lost Lenore and Wasteland's Caress seem to me the only tracks that have some sort of dynamics, Angellore more so than the other two and so I voted for it.
