My Lost Lenore
« on: 05 July 2005, 17:06:19 »

My Lost Lenore is such a beautiful song. The lyrics are very poetic , and i think with poety you can have your own unique reaction and interpret different meanings in each line. Can anyone describe what they feel the lyrics mean?

My Lost Lenore

For thy promise bewailed
by her raveneyes
by her beauty and a scarlet sunrise
May thy river bury her silvertears
A fallen angel... enshrined in moonlit seas

Leaving vitality
so serene breeds my darkness
Entreating winterwinds
though I leave... I embrace thee

Winternight
conceal thy precious angellore
I secrete my soul
under thy wings of sorrow
Dark I embrace thy eyes
wander lost on life's narrow path
I reveal my heart
to this beauty dressed in dark

Grieving raveneyes
falls asleep with the sunrise
Delightful midsummer breeze
though I leave... I await thee

Grant me thy last midsummer breeze
May thou ascend from endless sleep
... my desire
Dance me above thy moonli seas
Glance yearningly into the deep
a cold and weary night

Winternight
Descending me like flakes of snow
I embrace the cold
for a life that morrows
Dark I embrace thy heart
Wanderer lost beyond veils of dawn
I conceal thy loss
enthralled in life yet still I mourn
My lost Lenore…

Oh It's wonderful........have you evre search for Lenore's figure?
It's so interesting....look:

LENORE
by Edgar Allan Poe :D
1831

Ah, broken is the golden bowl! the spirit flown forever!
Let the bell toll!–a saintly soul floats on the Stygian river;
And, Guy de Vere, hast thou no tear?–weep now or nevermore!
See! on yon drear and rigid bier low lies thy love, Lenore!
Come! let the burial rite be read–the funeral song be sung!-
An anthem for the queenliest dead that ever died so young-
A dirge for her the doubly dead in that she died so young.

"Wretches! ye loved her for her wealth and hated her for her pride,
And when she fell in feeble health, ye blessed her–that she died!
How shall the ritual, then, be read?–the requiem how be sung
By you–by yours, the evil eye,–by yours, the slanderous tongue
That did to death the innocence that died, and died so young?"

Peccavimus; but rave not thus! and let a Sabbath song
Go up to God so solemnly the dead may feel no wrong.
The sweet Lenore hath "gone before," with Hope, that flew beside,
Leaving thee wild for the dear child that should have been thy
bride.
For her, the fair and debonair, that now so lowly lies,
The life upon her yellow hair but not within her eyes
The life still there, upon her hair–the death upon her eyes.

"Avaunt! avaunt! from fiends below, the indignant ghost is riven-
From Hell unto a high estate far up within the Heaven-
From grief and groan, to a golden throne, beside the King of
Heaven!
Let no bell toll, then,–lest her soul, amid its hallowed mirth,
Should catch the note as it doth float up from the damned Earth!
And I!–to-night my heart is light!–no dirge will I upraise,
But waft the angel on her flight with a Paean of old days!"

THE END

Personally I think it refers to Gottfried August Bürger's ballad "Lenore", from which E.A. Poe took the name.
Original German version
English translation by Dante

The motive of Lenore is actually very oftenly used in literature, especially poetry. Yes, Göttfried Bürger was the ''father'' of Lenore, but Lenore has been re-shaped and re-used many times, with poets such as Poe's and even here in Slovenia our most famous poet, France Preseren did a version of Lenore. The point is that the person/motive/Lenore is actually the same, but goes through different stories.

Tristania's is my second greatest band of all time. My Lost Lenore is a pure classic and this is the reason why they are the greatest gothic band of all time.
I think what makes 'My Lost Lenore' have such good lyrics is the fact that Morten wrote. Plain and Simple. It's more of a mixture of film lyrics yet it had a pinch of poetic beauty. The only lyrics I can really say that can measure up to this is Tuomas Holoipen's lyrics.

Btw which is your first greatest band of all time? :P

I think it is a great song, one more time i have to say i like all tristania songs, but this one is special I don't know why. It was the first one I saw in a video (live). Maybe that's the reason.

If you meant that it is different form others songs, you may find that in Cease to Exist she sings very similarly.
