What did you think when you first heard World of Glass?

My first impressions were: WTF? What happened to my beloved Tristania?!
But after a while :D I came to realise how excellent the album is.

It was the first of Tristania I'd heard so I liked it.  And I still do like it. :)

I thought it was a big disappointment at first, but I learned to like it. Still, not to the Tristania level that I should have.

I found wog somehow different, but still I liked it lot. Especially I love the choirs in this album. But its hard for me to say if this is the best album. I like them all fairly equally. I wonder how they will change in the next album.

It was the first album I bought from them.  Thats mainly because it seems to be the only one that you can find around here.  I liked it but I didn't think it was that great.  I guess you could say I like it a bit more now but my opinion remained the same.

First songs I heard of Tristania was a few mp3s from BTV. I found it took a few listens before I fully appreciated the music which was different from almost anything I've heard before that. Still, I knew it was something special so I kept listening. Same thing now with WOG, some great songs on that one, still I had to get into the different sound. But, once you're there, you don't want to leave.

Before I heard World Of Glass, I'd only heard Beyond The Veil so I didn't necessarily expect the sound to be any greater than already established. On first listen I felt that a lot of songs were growers and I also had a problem with some of the lyrics,"come, join this toast, God is dead" However I learned to have an open-minded approach towards the lyrics and see them as being symbolic.

Haha, nice to see I'm not the only one who started with this one!

Therefor this is what got me into this band. And I loved it right from the first second... even some of the electronics seemed VERY bizarre to me at first listening! ;)

Tastes are different, but it's arguably my most-heared album from them, and for me probably even their best to date! (Haha, heresy)

PS: The album cover is just great! One of the most beautiful I've ever seen. But I'm still stuck on the thougt I saw this cover many years ago on TV. Was it advertised?

(To the Germans here: I keep on thinking it was the 'album of the week' on RTL II. Am I crazy or can you confirm me?)  :D

My first impression was very similar to yours. The first song I was listening to, "The Shining Path" it was availible on CD's of Magazines Like "Metal Hammer" or "Rock Hard". I bought "Metal Hammer" and I listened to that song - I thought "wow, if all songs on WOG are of the same quality - then it would be a biggest masterpiece of music ever". But as I bought the whole album which came out some weeks after that I was very dissapointed. It was so slow and so "not ass-kicking". But after a while, I realized how great the CD was. And I like World of Glass now, it's one of my favourite albums.
Nevertheless, I think that the greatest albums, which you like for a long time and listents often to, are those, which you don't like from a first hearing but have to hear several times to get in it, to realize the beauty. So the best masterpieces are not "the love from the first sight" :)

Well, the first song I heard from World of Glass was World Of Glass, and I fell in love with it immediately, espeically Vibeke sounded just amazing IMO on that track. And I loved the whole alubum later, maybe a bit less that WW and BTV, but otherwise, I didn't need to hear it 20 times before I got into it; the first impression did enough to like it :D

same here!

first of all i love the fact that Vibeke sings in different styles now and not only soprano vocals. this gives the album a special feeling. another highlight are the choirs! most certainly this album contains the best choirs in Tristania's choire history! they did a great job with this album even without Morten who was considered the heart of Tristania... (i never agreed with that though..)

Hm... this topic is old and I haven't replied to it?

Anyway, I liked it from the beginning, also because I like electronic music. So this album was a nice blend for me of several of my genres of interest.

My first impression was that it was great, but I think it wasn't the masterpiece impression that Beyond the Veil had on me, or (ASHES) this year.
