I was reading the booklet along with the lyrics a couple of days ago and found that ěsten's lyrics appeal more to me then Morten's writings.

Anyone else who likes ěsten's lyrics?

I courteously disagree.  ěsten's lyrics tend to ramble and seem like they're just there so the singers have something to sing.  Like there's no feeling behind them.  That's just me... :)

I personally prefer Morten's lyrics. I'm not saying Osten's do not appeal to me but ...oh... I'm too subjective maybe...The themes they touch are quite different and I think Morten's more fully answer my emotional state.

Wow, Maigan and I seem to disagree on one subject! ;)

Anyway: I can't find myself that much in Morten's lyrics, which all look like weird love songs to me in dead English words. True, ěsten has weird stuff as well here and there ('Out of the waterpipe'? WTF? ).

Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the thee/thy/thou-stuff all the time, or Morten uses metaphors (probably) all the time which I can't get. Maybe I like straight-to-the-point lyrics. I don't know. This is the way it is.

OK, does anyone sees my point in this post? I don't! :D

after a long time,i think that morten lost his imagination for writing new lyrics...just compare lyrics from beyond the veil and sirenia's two albums! lots of wordsa are repeated and so on....

osten has really nice lyrics (love them, esp.deadlocked, selling out, world of glass),but nothing can compare to morten's lyrics on widow's weeds....

Morten always did repeat some lyrics, but it never bothered me.  And if I'm not mistaken, Einar wrote Deadlocked, not ěsten.

Morten's Sirenia lyrics show a different side of him and are easier to relate to... not that I suffer from mental breakdowns or anything... I mean, I talk to gophers, I'm totally sane...     But on BTV his lyrics are a little too abstract... I don't get what he's trying to say... but I'm not exactly the type to dig into lyrics too much (except my own).  ěsten's lyrics fit the new direction of their music, in my opinion.  Can't wait to see what he and the rest come up with for Ashes!

Oh you bet I'm gonna sue you  :D
Seriously... you're forgiven.

I think that's the only song Einar wrote by himself... he co-wrote two.. (I don't have the booklet with me either but I think it was Shining Path and World of Glass... someone correct me if you can).

I prefer Veland or Moen but not so much Berg÷y. Veland's lyrics are more mystical, and I like that. IMO Thy, Je, thou, etc sounds much more profound in poetry than ordinary pronouns. But on the other hand Berg÷y doesn't make bad lyrics, they are just.... hmm...different... eh, well to me lyrics aren't so important than music.

Even though I find most of Morten's lyrics to be rather pretentious (although better now in Sirenia than in Tristania), I think I prefer them over ěstens. Seriously, the singleminded christianitybashing got old WAY back...

I prefer Veland's lyrics over's Berg÷y's too... They are more mystical, and I like how he envolved the elements of old english in it... Especially the lyrics from Beyond The Veol are great... and also Widow's Weeds... on World Of Glass, some are good, but not the best...

I like both of them
Osten's lyics remind me somehow of the epoch "Art Nouveau" (yes, it's the english denomination for "jugendstil") :D
And somehow of David Bowie. (e.g. World of Glass lyrics like "Scary Monsters"; ", You will be queen, I'll be king" (ok that line was also used by Nine Inch Nails).

That line must be old as dirt. ěsten seems a bit unimaginative when he's recycling old lines that are overused already.
There's also that "shivers down my spine" line in Cure (has been used by Within Temptation in The Dance and also by HIM). IMHO that image has been overused in the gothic genre. But overall I prefer ěsten's lyrics over Morten's. There's a lot of passion in ěsten's lyrics.

I'm still wondering why Vibeke never wrote any lyrics for Tristania.

Yepp, I was asking myself that same thing... IMO she could do a great job, and as all the other members (& lyrics writers) are male, her lyrics would probably vary from the others...

Hm, I think he is just inspired. I noticed that by myself. When I listen to a certain kind of band, for example The Smashing Pumpkins, then I get some words and phrases from them which are afterwards to be found in my own lyrics. Even if it was not my intention to use them...
I think that ěsten is a fan of David Bowie so maybe he automaticaly uses the phrases without having any purpose to copy them :)

To read her lyrics would be great. I don't think that the lyrics of the other are too male. A lot of them fit to or can be origined from the girls' thoughts :)
