My Review Of World Of Glass
« on: 03 April 2011, 06:41:40 »

Tristania's World Of Glass is definitely an epic and extremely bombastic release. It knocks you right off of your feet with its level of complexity. The absence of Morten is felt. The feel of the album is still extremely dark and foreboding, but gone is the medieval archaic gothic themes...instead leaving a more modern language that we could understand better. Yet, this album loses nothing. The harsh growls are definitely deeper and grand...but no longer posessing that death shriek and viciousness that Morten had. Still, everything else makes up for that. This trully is a highlight in gothic metal and the career of Tristania.

The Shining Path - Absolutely amazing song that blew me away and left my jaw hanging open. It's so bombastic and the choirs are so evil and demonic sounding. Vibeke's performance is haunting, creepy, and breathtakingly beautiful and the atmosphere and sounds of this song are so creepy! I love it!!!
5/5 +++++

Wormwood - Very doomful song full of evil and lamenting choirs that absolutely chill me to the bone. All of the instrumental and vocal performances done by the members ofthe band are done with perfection. The lyrics are absolutely eerie and full of doom, and they just add to the funeral like march of the song.
5/5 +++

Tender Trip On Earth - My personal favorite on the album. It's so beautiful with touching lyrics and a soothing mesmerizing sound. The vocals sound so sad, yet full of hope and love...like two despairing lovers that have went through so much pain. Very poetic and heart wrenching. 5/5 ++++++++

Lost - A weaker link on the album, but still worthy of recognition. The song is very driving and epic with an amazing choir and wicked badass violin solo. The lyrics are a bit weak in my opinion, but no where near bad or mediocre. 4.5/5

Deadlocked - One of the other best songs on the album. It is a slower song, driven by Vibeke's beautiful vocals. The lyrics are absolutely magnificent and emotional and the keyboards at the end add a heavily nostalgic feel. Another part that makes this song so epic is that little part where it turns into a march with an echo of harsh vocals and whispers, as well as violin. It totally won me over. 5/5 +++++++

Selling Out - Another weaker link on the album. It's again, not a bad song. In fact, it sounds very good. The vocals are amazing and the instruments are wonderful, but the lyrics are not favorable. They just don't seem to match. 4/5

Hatred Grows - One of the most epic songs ever made. It's driving, evil sounding, and cinematic in a way. Vibeke definitely shines here. especially in her fast lines in the chorus. The lyrics are awesome, and the sound is so addicting and it's another one that I can't help but hit the replay button on.

World Of Glass - Very hypnotic and creepy song. It has a very dreamy and trancelike atmosphere that captivates the listener. The lyrics are also very great and the chorus just epic! A definite highlight! 5/5 +++++

The Modern End - A great cover with Vibeke's amazing voice. The sound is so cold and so foreboding...leaving an icy beauty. A very good and listenable track.
5/5 ++

Crushed Dreams - Extremely epic and evil sounding song with amazing vocal performances and heavy instrumentation. Vibeke sounds like a freaking goddess and Osten sounds like a prophet!! The harsh vocals are frightening and aggressive. Absolutely amazing and a perfect way to end the album. 5/5 ++++++

Vocal Performance: 5/5
Instrumental Performance: 5/5
Lyrical Performance: 4/5
Overall Feeling: 5/5
Total: 19/20 (A)
