Selling Out
« on: 12 August 2011, 19:16:01 »

At first, I disliked this song. I just had a problem with the lyrics and the way it sounded, but after a few more listens...I love the song. It's such a strong and moving song. I love the part "An Overdose of Nothingnes." It just gets me pumped up. Any thoughts on the song?

It's always in my personal Top 5 Tristania songs. The vocal balance is near perfect (the clean voice, the female voice and what I believe to be the harshest growling I've ever heard. I even love how the song is slightly asymmetric in this regard - the first time around the chorus line (... an overdose of nothingness...) is sung by JK Barkved but the second time it's Ronnie Thorsen.

The lyrics, well... I'm not sure ุsten was all right when writing them. :/ It's the dark heart of the whole album, a confession of a man driven to the brink... utterly hypnotizing. I tend to believe in this more than in random pseudo-medieval gothic wordplay.

... and last but not least, it's one more remaining chance to hear the late great Jan Kenneth Barkved on record.

So, what's not to like? Scores 666 out of 5.

The whole World Of Glass album is a masterpiece, and this song is not an exception :)

^ Aye! It's easily my favourite these days.

The lyrics are fucking brutal. ''An overdose of nothingess''... I mean SHIT! How does one come up with that? It's a very quotable song; ''the child in me just died'', ''my visions are for sale'', etc...

I totally agree with you, Funaralord. World of Glass actually is one of the best, if not the best album by Tristania, and one of the masterpieces of the whole genre. I love every song, and by now, Selling Out is one of my faves. And yes, my favourite line is "An overdose of nothingness", too, but the whole lyrics are... well, not what I'd expected from Tristania, but they are great in their own way.
