Tristania 3D
« on: 09 July 2005, 23:32:09 »

Greetings!
As you probably know, the computer game named "Tristania 3D" is currently under planning. Now our team started to create the game itself. It will be quite hard work, as Tristania 3D will have lots of extra features compared to the Wolfenstein 3D, but the easiest part have been passed. Any new information about the upcoming game will be written here, including the download site, once it's completed.
Here you can see some leaked screenshots from the game.

The story will be quite simple (sorry,I had to pay attention to the limited opportunities of Wolfenstein 3D). Vibeke will be kidnapped by a large, and lethal group of satanists, who want to use her voice, and finally, her soul to unleash the forces of Evil from their prison, and drive mankind into DARKNESS. I know,I know, it's another "saving-Earth-from-total-destruction" goal, but hell, this is a noble thing to do.
Your character will be Einar Moen (picture 2), and your "mission" is to rescue Vibeke, and destroy the satanits' plans about calling their hideous daemons from the "world beyond". You MUST rescue Vibeke, before it's too late...
Compared to Wolfenstein 3D, Tristania 3D will have many unique features:

- Directional sprites (such as fences)
- Textured floor & ceiling
- 200 different walltypes
- Four episodes, 40 levels (36 levels, 4 secret levels)
- New background music & new sound effects
- Switch controlled pushwalls
- A timed level: Red nightfall
- Doors opening from the middle
- The "pac-man" ghosts will be 1 shootable enemy
- Outdoor areas with starry night and rainfall
- Ingame messages, such as "You obtained the gothic gun."

So that's what we working on. I'm pretty sure it'll be ready sooner or later...

I'm glad you like it :) I won't disappoint you with the game.
It will take a lot of time to create Tristania3D (Spear - End of Destiny took 2 years for AReyeP and MCS), but it WILL be ready. The promise NEVER dies.

Oh wow...that's awesome! Not every other band out there has a videogame after themselves. And you're using the most attractive male member of Tristania... :D

That is correct! As far as known, none other band has a video game about themselves naturally, not even the biggest pop or rock stars. Tristania will be the very first band who'll have a game about themselves. This is no wonder, Tristania is the best gothic band in this whole wide world!
It was also obvious that I took Einar Moen to play the main role in the game. Vibeke is kidnapped, so it would be kinda weird to play with her :) Other band members' face would be very hard to alter them to the game (there are about 40 head images in the game, Einar starts to bleed, once his health decreases, Einar smiles when he finds a gothic gun on his way, and so on). In fact, he had the best position at the band member photo, which I altered a bit (screenshot 2: Einar Moen stands on the rim of a cliff, holding the gothic gun). The other members' long hair would be also very hard to add, along with their different looking, so I decided to take Einar as the hero of the game.
Once he receives the gothic gun, he becomes unstoppable. Do not fail him ;)

A few things to keep in mind:

- The very first episode will be a TRAINING, where you can learn the gameplay, build up strategies, sniff out hidden traps, learn from your mistakes, and THEN, the story episodes begin with episode 2 (The rescue), episode 3 (Secret celebration) and their amazing sequel, episode 4 (Where no man has gone before).
I highly advise you to play the training levels before entering the real battle.

- The gothic gun is unquestionably the most powerful weapon. However, you might find yourself on a situation, where every missed shot is critical. I won't notice these parts to you...you might discover them on you own.

- Don't worry if you get wounded. You can restore your health by picking up fresh wormwood in outside areas, eating holy food with wine, or drinking absinte. Your health will also restores by acquiring a Holy Cross on your way. Mostly, the satanists buried these, and hidden them, but if you're clever, you will find them. Holy Crosses will also gives you 1 soul. You can have 9 souls as a maximum amount.

- The switch controlled pushwalls cannot be opened by original methods, but mostly, it's obvious, which pushwall has been activated by a switch. Necessary items, and pathways won't be hidden.

- Episode 2 level 7 (Red nighfall) will be the only timed level in the game. You will have exactly 12 minutes to reach the level exit. It won't be an "impossible" level...but also won't be easy.

- I hate mazes, so I won't create a maze level...but there might be a small maze on one level.

Hmmm....I never played WarCraft 3 for so long. I was happy when I'm completed the 2nd part :) In fact, Wolfenstein 3D is already very heavy to edit, and make all the code changes to get the things work flawlessly, I don't think editing a Warcraft 3 mod will be easier ;) Trust me :)

Okay folks, I am back.

Sorry for the delay, the Tristania3D project was taken away from the Wolf3D engine, and will be made using the Doom engine. It will take much longer (possibly a year), but will have tons of unique and spectacular features which the Wolf3D engine could not provide by no means.

Do not fear, the project has NOT been ditched. I made a promise, which I shall fulfill. I just needed to locate a correct engine which I could improve the gameplay feeling with. Let us see what will Tristania3D give to us.

- REAL 3D background with many different floors, elevated platforms, bridges, buildings, rooftops etc. etc. So the game will not be restricted to the ground floor only (this is what Wolf3D could not provide. No stairs, no elevators, no high towers reaching to the pale horizon). This will change now with the shiny new engine.
- Digital music. No more MIDIs and such. Real, digitized MP3 music for the whole game.
- Unimaginibly realistic sound effects!
- Fierce action!
- A great variety of hostile entities; human beings, demons etc.
- Many collectable objects.
- Complex and extremely well designed levels. Well-varied environments, such as cathedrals, warehouses, underground tunnels, forest, riverside, hillside, temples, and "where no man has gone before" areas too. Expect something different!
- Eight weapons.
- Whole tons of secret areas.
- 30 main levels, and two secret levels.
- You control Einar Moen as the main character of the game.
- The goal is the same: Rescue Vibeke, before it is too late.
- Gigantic amounts of different wall types, and static objects.
- Many many secret areas in levels.
- Look for hidden surprises!

A few words about the collectable items, and weapons.

1: Dagger. You may pick up a blessed dagger on your way, which will restore you to full health, and gives you unimaginibly powerful dagger stab power (you can slaughter down smaller enemies with one stab). "Knife fury"
2: Backstab 49.3 parabellum
3: Shotgun and Riot gun
4: MP5
5: Bazooka
6: ?
7: The Gothic Gun (also known as Dark Matter Gun).
8: ?

Powerups:
---------
Fresh wormwood - Restores +5% to your soul, even above 100%.
Glass of fine absinthe - Restores 10% to your soul.
Red wine with host - Restores 25% to your soul.
Soul sphere - Restores 100% to your soul, even above 100%
Holy cross - Restores 200% to your soul and your protection. Definitively the best powerup.

Talisman - Increases your protection with 5%, even above 100%
Heavy leather coat - Increases your protection with 100%, up to 100%.
Mag deflector (stands for magic deflector) - Gives the maximum of 200% protection.

Valuable items:
--------------

Partial invisibility - Turns you partially invisible for a short period. This does NOT mean the enemies will not attack you, but they'll mostly miss.
Invulnerability - God mode for a short period. You cannot be killed.
Iron brogues - Gives protection against harmful liquids for a short period of time.
Magic eye - You will be able to see in extremely dark areas for a short period.

Levels:
-------

1: Preludium
2: Derelict
3: Underestimated
4: Old town
5: Underground
6: Destination deparute

---

7: Asylum
8: Asylum II
9: Boiler rooms
10: Sewer
11: Outer
12: Chaos realm

---

13: Hilltop
14: The Necropolis
15: Niara
16: Cognizant dreaming
17: The Church
18: The Damned Temple
19: Military base
20: Vibs

---

21: Out of this world
22: Dark river
23: No man's land
24: You are empty
25: Worlds collide
26: Roundabout
27: Tower of Babel
28: A falling stone
29: The face of the enemy
30: Postludium

Secret levels:
31: UC red, IC blue
32: Mercury

I might try to put in more secrets levels, but I am not sure that the engine will support it,and I do not have the source code for the program. Still, I can do a perfect work. Making the levels will be MUCH harder than in Wolf3D, it shall take whole months, but patience, my friends, it WILL be done.

To answer the questions: This will be a 100% free software, supports XP and Vista very well. And yes, things may change.

It will be :) I just discovered the ZDoom engine, which supports digital music. Without digital music, I would not even start working on Tristania3D. Having Tristania music as background for the levels is an essential part.

I downloaded lots of tools to start making Tristania3D, as well as images. All I need is to learn how to put things together.

There sixth weapon shall be an extremely special one (unnamed yet), if I could manage to put it in the game. A weapon which will resurrect previously killed enemies to fight on your side. It'll be powered with holy water, just like the Gothic gun (hopefully). Not sure I can make it, but I'll give it a try. Will be a nice feature.

Here is the first leaked screenshot of the game. This is the picture which shows up every time you complete a level.

If you have better backgrounds, better images of Einar Moen, or simply recommendations...I will be the first who'll create them.
ZDoom uses quite advanced graphics, so I expect minimal image(s) distortion when the game will be finally put together.

http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tristania3dyouwinfi8.png

I'm sorry for the small size of the picture, but the engine supports only 320×200 pixel size of pictures. I'll try to increase this size during the work progress.

I had already made a computer game, so with proper tools, I can do magic with rusty old games :) I created Supaplex 2 - The Master Computer also, a thinking game, which became very nice compared to the old Supaplex.

I really love Tristania, as well as dark-goth people. Besides, the Tristania3D will be a nice advertising feature for such a great band. Besides, no other band has its own computer game, as far as I know. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

Moreover, I was really disappointed by the farewell of Vibeke. Like my Cognizant Dark Opera, Tristania3D should be a good way of rememberance to the past.

All I need is to create the game, and - well - a nice background story for the game. If you have any great story in your mind, which could be used as the base of the game.

okay, well make sure to make a guest appearence at the end of the game from Victoria Horror, Vibeke's rumored girlfriend ;] do it do it do it or i will NOT be amused.
